PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between David Zukerman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikel Skiel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, David Zukerman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mikel Skiel!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksandr Martynov and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Skiel drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Skiel working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Skiel sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Zukerman's guard.
Skiel with the ground and pound but Zukerman uses the opportunity to regain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Skiel working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Skiel throws a strike but Zukerman rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Skiel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Zukerman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Skiel pushes Zukerman off and scrambles back to his feet.

Skiel throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Zukerman was covering up waiting for the punch and Skiel finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Skiel advances to half guard.
Skiel should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Zukerman has hold of Skiel's hands but Skiel slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Zukerman keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Zukerman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Skiel on the ground.
Zukerman regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Skiel.

Zukerman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Zukerman wants to sweep but no luck.

Skiel is just content to waste time from the top position. Zukerman takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Skiel slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Skiel is putting a hurting on Zukerman here, landing some big shots from side control.

Zukerman takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Skiel looks up at the clock and then as Zukerman takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Skiel smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Skiel tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Skiel has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Skiel working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Skiel is looking to take a break and control but Zukerman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Zukerman manages to work his way to half guard, despite Skiel's best efforts.
Zukerman wants to improve his position but Skiel is controlling well.
Skiel thows a huge punch but Zukerman dodges it nicely.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Skiel tries to score a power double leg takedown but Zukerman sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Skiel somewhat.

Zukerman throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Skiel was covering up waiting for the punch and Zukerman finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Skiel is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Zukerman is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Zukerman has escaped and now he's on top!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Zukerman has his takedown stuffed

and Skiel counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Skiel drops an elbow to the side of Zukerman's head.
Skiel lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Skiel not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Skiel is stalling here. Zukerman is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Skiel seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Zukerman has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Skiel has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Zukerman is working away from the top position though.

Zukerman is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Skiel is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Skiel has escaped and now he's on top!
Skiel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Skiel passes Zukerman's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Skiel seems to be looking for submissions.
Zukerman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Zukerman is in trouble now - Skiel has advanced to mount!

Zukerman wants to hold on but Skiel pushes him away.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Skiel is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Zukerman gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Skiel closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Skiel lands in his opponent's guard.

I've got Skiel winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
