PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jacques Grande (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wayne Gretzky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grande comes into the arena with I Drove All Night blaring out of the sound system. Gretzky comes into a darkened arena with his song building. All shook up by Elvis Presley kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacques Grande!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Wayne Gretzky!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice body punch from Grande.
Grande looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Grande scores with a nice strike.
Grande misses with a body shot.
Jacques Grande seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grande dodges the punch combination from Gretzky.
Grande looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gretzky is fending him off so far but Grande persists. Nope, Gretzky circles away and we're back to standing.
Grande listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.


It looks like Wayne Gretzky has been cut.
Grande pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Grande misses with a takedown attempt - Gretzky sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Grande cracks Gretzky with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Gretzky takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Gretzky tries to bench press Grande off him but Grande keeps the position.

Grande wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gretzky, who protects the arm well.
Gretzky tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Gretzky is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Gretzky takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Gretzky is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Grande just content to control the position.
Grande lands a few punches from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Grande trying to control the position but Gretzky is working away.

Grande tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Grande has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Grande knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gretzky on the ground.

Gretzky is trying to control Grande's posture but Grande avoids it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gretzky takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Gretzky tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Gretzky is letting Grande control him for a moment.
Grande seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Gretzky for as long as he can get away with.
Grande's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Gretzky tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Grande presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

BOOM! Grande connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Gretzky is desperately trying to improve his position but Grande has a good base and remains in mount.

Gretzky wants to control but Grande is having none of it.
Gretzky is trying to escape the mount.
Grande lands a big shot there that rocks Gretzky but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Grande lands a left and a right that sends Gretzky crashing to the canvas! Grande dives into mount looking to finish!
Gretzky tries to reverse the position but Grande maintains control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grande lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Gretzky is looking to improve his position but Grande isn't that keen on the idea.
Gretzky seems to have recovered his senses.
Grande pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Grande is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gretzky has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Gretzky is squirming around, avoiding Grande's attempts to control the action.
Gretzky is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Gretzky is bucking up trying to escape but Grande cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Grande cracks Gretzky with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Gretzky sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Grande connects with a nice short shot to Gretzky's temple.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Grande lands a nice short elbow.

Gretzky is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Grande pulls his head out easily.
Jacques Grande overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gretzky is breathing heavily.
Grande looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Grande lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Gretzky is staying active underneath Grande, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Grande not doing much here.

Gretzky is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Grande pulls his head out easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Grande takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Grande looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gretzky with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Grande lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Gretzky backs up against the cage.


Wayne Gretzky's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Gretzky shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Grande pinned against the cage. Grande gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Grande rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gretzky moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Grande swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Wayne Gretzky's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
