PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Engine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Olhoffer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ray Olhoffer will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thomas Engine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ray Olhoffer!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Engine avoids a punch combination nicely.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Engine.
The ground and pound from Engine seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Engine throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Engine controls the position.
Engine wants to control but Olhoffer is keeping him busy.
Olhoffer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Engine. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Engine looks up at the clock and then as Olhoffer takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Engine smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Engine creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Olhoffer sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Engine is looking to take a break and control but Olhoffer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Olhoffer prevents Engine from improving position.
Engine trying to control the position but Olhoffer is working away.
Olhoffer takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Olhoffer prevents Engine from moving into mount.
Engine throwing strikes but Olhoffer manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Engine managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Olhoffer.
Olhoffer looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Engine is avoiding damage well.
Engine is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Olhoffer's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Engine slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Olhoffer wants to stand and escape but instead Engine has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Engine wants to control from the top but Olhoffer keeps moving.

Engine throws a strike but Olhoffer rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Engine is controlling Olhoffer's posture.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Engine's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Engine is on top in guard.
Engine trying to control the position from guard on top but Olhoffer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Engine sitting in guard here, content to control.
Engine tries to free his leg and advance position but Olhoffer is retaining full guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Engine has a takedown stuffed.
Olhoffer thows a body shot but no joy.
Olhoffer misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Olhoffer gets caught flat footed, as Engine shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Engine sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Engine wants to control from the top but Olhoffer keeps moving.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Thomas Engine just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Engine staying out of range there.
Olhoffer leaves Engine with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Engine is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Olhoffer's half guard.
Engine looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Engine controlling the action here.
Engine thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Engine trying to control from half guard but Olhoffer is working away.

Engine missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Engine has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Olhoffer gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Engine sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Olhoffer's guard.
Engine throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Engine wants to control but Olhoffer is keeping him busy.
Engine is stalling here. Olhoffer is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Engine seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Olhoffer has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Olhoffer tries to get to his feet but Engine is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Olhoffer in his guard.
Engine seems keen to control Olhoffer's posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Engine ducks under a wild hook from Olhoffer.
Olhoffer lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Engine circles away quickly and effectively.
Engine keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Olhoffer looks to land a left hand but Engine moved out of range nicely.

Engine looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Engine uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Olhoffer.
Olhoffer fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A slow jab from Olhoffer misses its intended target.
Ray Olhoffer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Engine fails with a takedown attempt.
Engine showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Olhoffer.
Engine shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Olhoffer pinned against the cage. Olhoffer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thomas Engine. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Olhoffer lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Engine shoots for a double leg takedown but Olhoffer sprawls well. He's pushed Engine's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Thomas Engine is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Olhoffer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ray Olhoffer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Engine has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
