PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Stout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and paul smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stout has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Sam Stout looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sam Stout!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, paul smith!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
smith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Stout is breathing heavily.
Stout shoots in for a takedown but smith shows good takedown defense.
Stout takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

smith moves into the clinch.
smith can't get the takedown.

smith manages to pull guard.
smith throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Stout postures up.
smith looking for a sweep. Not yet smith, not yet.

smith uses the cage to get back to his feet.
smith shoots in for a takedown but Stout shows good takedown defense.
smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Sam Stout has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of paul smith.
smith lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
smith is looking to clinch but Stout is avoiding it.

Stout has smith pressed against the cage, preventing smith from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

smith jumps guard but Stout stands there with smith around his waist. smith gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
smith jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Stout walks away with a smile on his face. smith gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Stout sprawls well. He's pushed smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - smith looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A slapping leg kick lands for smith.

smith is looking to clinch but Stout is avoiding it.

smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Stout napping and manages to drive through into side control!
smith works to advance to full mount. Stout defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
smith scoring with strikes but Stout is staying in there.

smith has control of Stout's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Stout regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

smith tries to control but Stout wriggling away.
smith landing strikes, looking to finish!
smith wants to control the pace but Stout is squirming around nicely.
smith has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Stout's face.
smith can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Stout is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


smith tries to close the distance and clinch but Stout swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
smith changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Stout tries to avoid it but smith manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Stout to the ground. Stout escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Good standup being displayed there by smith as he connects with a hook.
Nice sprawl there from Stout as smith shoots in.

Stout on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

smith shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Stout manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

smith stands and throws Stout's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

smith is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Stout is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Stout is looking to reverse the position.
smith wants to control but Stout is keeping him busy.

smith is working Stout over with some ground and pound from side control.
smith has knee on belly and moves into mount.
smith trying to control but he's not successful this time.
smith lands a heavy elbow.
smith trying to control but Stout is having none of it.
Stout is bucking up trying to escape but smith cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Despite being in the dominant position, paul smith just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

smith shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stout's guard.
smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

paul smith has got the better of the ground game so far.

smith distracts Stout with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Stout is trying to control the position but smith postures up.
smith sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stout's guard.

smith gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Stout wants to get back to his feet.
Stout trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

smith tries to control but Stout wriggling away.
smith pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Stout tries to lock up and control but smith gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

BOOM! smith connects with a massive shot to the dome!

smith stands up from mount. Strange move.

smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
smith thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
smith wants to control but Stout is keeping him busy.
Stout wants to improve his position but smith is controlling well.
Stout is trying to stand back up but smith is controlling him
smith is controlling the pace.

smith decides to stand up.
smith tries to clinch up but Stout circles away and keeps his distance.
Stout avoids a kick to the body.
A lazy body kick from Stout
and smith counters with a head kick. That will keep Stout thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Sam Stout has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
paul smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

paul smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
