And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, William Costa!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Felipe Paraventi and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Costa blocks a head kick by Contreras.

Costa gets a takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Costa passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Contreras!
Costa thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Contreras is squirming around, avoiding Costa's attempts to control the action.

Costa avoids the attempt from Contreras to control.
Costa wants to control the pace but Contreras is squirming around nicely.
Costa controlling the pace for now.

Costa goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Contreras is on top in guard.
Contreras tries to stand but Costa is controlling from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Costa wants to get back to his feet but Contreras is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Costa pushes Contreras off and scrambles back to his feet.

Contreras looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Costa!
Costa is squirming around, avoiding Contreras's attempts to control the action.

Contreras wants to finish this one by submission but Costa is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Contreras.

Contreras stands up from mount. Strange move.

Contreras tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Contreras throws a head kick that misses.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Contreras ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Costa moves away.

Costa wants to control for a moment but Contreras uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Contreras is looking to control Costa's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Contreras avoid being mounted?

Costa seems to be looking for submissions.
Costa frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Contreras holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Costa tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Contreras is desperately trying to improve his position but Costa has a good base and remains in mount.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Contreras is in a horrible position here. Costa smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Contreras tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Contreras tries to hold on but Costa postures up.
Costa landing strikes, looking to finish!

Costa is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Contreras has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Contreras!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Contreras stands up from Costa's guard - Contreras perhaps looking for a knockout.
Alex Contreras is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Costa shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Contreras sprawls well. Contreras wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Costa gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

William Costa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Contreras keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Contreras doesn't manage to clinch there - Costa circles away.

Contreras forces Costa back against the cage and clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Contreras prevents the takedown attempt.
Costa drops down looking for an ankle pick but Contreras pulls his leg out and moves away.
Alex Contreras has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of William Costa.
Costa on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Contreras. Contreras obviously looking to wear him down.

Contreras lands a slapping body shot.
Costa fails with the takedown
and Contreras counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Costa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Contreras lands with a good body shot.
Contreras is looking to slow Costa down with leg kicks.
Costa takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Contreras throws a head kick that Costa semi-blocks.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Costa shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Contreras counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Costa thinking.

so Costa counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Contreras is on top in guard.
Contreras wants to stand but Costa has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
William Costa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Costa keeping moving, preventing Contreras from controlling successfully.

Costa pushes Contreras off and gets back to his feet.
Contreras shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Costa sprawls well. Costa wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Contreras gets slowly back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Contreras misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Costa changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Contreras looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee asks Costa politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Costa prefers to stall for the moment though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Costa tries to advance to mount but Contreras denies him.
Contreras takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alex Contreras showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Costa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
