PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Juan Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Groovy Dude (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dude closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Dude seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Dude really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Torres. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Torres makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Dude shoots in looking for a takedown. Torres tries to sprawl out of it but Dude keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Torres manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Torres closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dude to the mat! Dude manages to get full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dude can do anything to dispel that myth.

Dude isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Torres stacks Dude on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Torres!

Torres's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Dude seems a little lost for a moment, as Torres dominates the positioning.

Torres is looking to take a break and control but Dude is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dude is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Torres decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Dude's guard.

Dude stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Torres swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dude postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Torres is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Torres is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Dude!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Torres can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Dude is looking to escape.
Dude is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Groovy Dude will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Torres manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Dude shoots in for a takedown but Torres shows good takedown defense.

Dude feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Dude is posturing up here but Torres has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Dude tries to roll out but it's too tight and Dude has to tap! Slick submission there by Torres!
