PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Erick Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Niklas Fleischer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Niklas Fleischer told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Erick Coleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Niklas Fleischer!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coleman scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Coleman happy to just control the position for now.
Coleman lands an elbow.


It looks like Niklas Fleischer has been cut.
Coleman throws an elbow but Fleischer slips to the side and avoids it well.
Coleman throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Coleman cracks Fleischer with a big right hand but Fleischer just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Fleischer is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Coleman tries to move to mount but Fleischer blocks the move with his legs.
Coleman controlling the position.

Coleman has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Fleischer throws a right hand that Coleman ducks under and follows up with a left that Coleman also avoids with ease.
Fleischer looks gassed!
Coleman swings for the body but Fleischer moves out of range.

Coleman feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Fleischer wants to sweep but no luck.
Fleischer wants to get back to his feet but Coleman is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coleman not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Coleman lands a couple of elbows.
Coleman throwing strikes but missing.
Coleman controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Fleischer can't keep his opponent in guard - Coleman advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Coleman is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Coleman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fleischer keeps working.

Fleischer is trying to stand back up but Coleman is controlling him

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Coleman thows a huge punch but Fleischer dodges it nicely.
Coleman thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Fleischer to regain full guard.
Coleman wants to control from the top but Fleischer keeps moving.
Coleman won't allow Fleischer to get back to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Fleischer throws a one two combo.
Fleischer moves in looking to clinch but Coleman pushes him off.
Coleman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fleischer's waist but Coleman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Coleman off to one side.
Fleischer punishes Coleman's body with a nice straight punch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Fleischer is fighting off a takedown attempt but Coleman is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Fleischer to the mat. Fleischer regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Coleman advances position into side control!

Coleman wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fleischer, who protects the arm well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Coleman looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Fleischer!
Fleischer wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Fleischer is breathing heavily.

Coleman is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Fleischer has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Coleman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Coleman trying to control but Fleischer is having none of it.
Coleman lands with some strikes.
Coleman is landing with some decent strikes but Fleischer is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Fleischer is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Fleischer manages to control the position for a moment.
Coleman lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.


The has opened up Niklas Fleischer's cut even more.
Coleman won't let Fleischer get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Fleischer is squirming around, avoiding Coleman's attempts to control the action.
Coleman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fleischer is trying to stand up.
Coleman controlling from the full mount.
Fleischer in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Coleman scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Fleischer?

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Coleman looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Coleman tries to pass the half guard into mount. Fleischer knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Coleman throwing shots but Fleischer is blocking nicely.
Coleman slows the pace down in half guard.
Coleman stops Fleischer from getting back to his feet.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Erick Coleman just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Coleman looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Coleman moves into full mount! Fleischer won't be happy about that!
Fleischer is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Erick Coleman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Coleman seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fleischer for as long as he can get away with.

Niklas Fleischer's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

Fleischer seems to have recovered his senses.
Coleman scores with a couple of good head shots there.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Niklas Fleischer's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
