1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hyun Sudo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshihiro Akiyama! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sudo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Akiyama pinned against the cage. Akiyama gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Akiyama tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Akiyama tried to score with a low kick but Sudo checks it. Akiyama misses with a jab, cross combination.
Akiyama is looking to clinch. Sudo swats away the attempt to clinch by Akiyama. Akiyama tries to clinch but Sudo is having none of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Akiyama tries to close the distance and clinch but Sudo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Sudo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Akiyama defends it nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sudo keeps the fight on the outside. The fight stays on the outside here - Akiyama looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Sudo shoots for a takedown but Akiyama saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hyun Sudo. That's going to take a lot out of him. Akiyama tries to clinch but Sudo moves out of range. Akiyama looks to land a combination but Sudo avoids it well. Akiyama throws a right and a left that Sudo avoids nicely. Sudo uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Akiyama. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Akiyama.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Sudo keeps the fight on the outside. Akiyama wants to clinch up but Sudo keeps it at a distance. Akiyama tries to clinch up but Sudo circles away and keeps his distance. Akiyama waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Sudo. Akiyama fails in his attempt to clinch. Sudo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Akiyama circles away. Sudo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Sudo lands a decent elbow from side control. Sudo lands a few punches from side control. Akiyama is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sudo is chipping away with strikes.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Akiyama can do anything to dispel that myth. Akiyama pushes Sudo away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Sudo gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Sudo lands a few punches from side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Akiyama looks gassed! Akiyama is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Akiyama takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Akiyama is working to avoid the ground and pound but Sudo connects with a decent elbow. Sudo is working Akiyama over with some ground and pound from side control. Sudo scores with a couple of short elbows. Sudo working the body and head with strikes. Akiyama tries to escape but Sudo is in control. Akiyama is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Check out the look on Sudo's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Akiyama is still in real trouble! Can Sudo finish him? This has been an exciting period of action! Sudo scores with a couple of short elbows. Akiyama really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sudo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sudo lands an elbow.
