PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Naolo Chin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ja Mt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Naolo Chin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ja Mt!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Lou da Vinci and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Chin throws a wild body kick that Mt sees coming a mile off.

Chin shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Chin wants to work for an arm triangle but Mt is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Chin stops Mt from getting back to his feet.
Mt wants to improve his position but Chin is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mt is trying to maintain the position but Chin is very close to passing his half guard.
Mt is in trouble now - Chin has advanced to mount!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chin controlling the pace for now.
Chin's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Chin lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Mt tries to hold on but Chin pushes him away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Chin lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Chin takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Mt is working to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chin has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mt's face.
Mt sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Chin tries to pass to full mount but Mt defends it.
Mt wants to control but Chin is keeping busy.
Chin controlling the action here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Naolo Chin just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Chin clinches up with Mt and pushes him back against the cage.

Mt has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Chin uses from the top position.
Mt not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Chin slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The referee asks Chin politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Chin prefers to stall for the moment though.
Mt is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Naolo Chin dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Chin moves in looking to clinch but Mt pushes him off.

Chin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Chin lands in his opponent's guard.
Chin passes into half guard.
Chin has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Mt is wriggling around trying to escape.
Chin controlling his opponent.

Chin fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Mt has given up his back here.
Mt tries to roll but Chin sticks to his back.

Chin is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Mt defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Chin's arms.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Chin is riding his opponent, not letting Mt buck him off.

Mt trying to control the hands but Chin won't let him.
Chin controls the position.

Chin is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Mt knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Mt for a finish.

Mt breaks Chin's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Chin wants to sweep but no luck.
Chin is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mt throws a strike but Chin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Mt is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Mt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Chin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mt swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mt throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mt shoots and misses

and Chin counters with a takedown into side control.
Mt looking for a sweep but Chin has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Mt defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Chin.
Mt wants to hold on but Chin pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Naolo Chin dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Chin wants to clinch up but Mt keeps it at a distance.
Mt tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chin swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Naolo Chin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Mt has his takedown stuffed

so Chin counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Mt looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Chin postures up.
Chin controls from within his opponent's guard.

Mt is trying to keep Chin in close.

Mt is working an open guard so Chin takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mt fails with the takedown

so Chin counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Chin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Chin gets to his feet. Mt looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Chin feints and as Mt raises his hands in defense, Chin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Naolo Chin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Chin stopping the sweep attempt from Mt.
Mt thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Chin is working Mt over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Mt wants to stand but Chin is controlling the position.

Chin showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Chin has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Chin postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Chin stands and throws Mt's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Chin is looking to take a break and control but Mt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Chin lands an elbow.
Mt tries to improve position but can't.
Chin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mt can do to turn this around?
Mt is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Chin is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Chin controlling the position easily from mount.

Chin jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Mt is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Mt and Chin has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

And that's the end of the fight!
Naolo Chin showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Chin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
