Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Herra Mursu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Schmeling (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Max Schmeling has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Herra Mursu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Max Schmeling!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schmeling closes the distance and clinches up with Mursu, looking for a takedown. Schmeling pushes Mursu against the cage but Mursu circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Schmeling throws a low kick, looking for Mursu's leg but Mursu calmly moves out of range.
Schmeling misses with a wild combination.
Schmeling is looking to land body kicks.
Mursu fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schmeling throws a head kick but Mursu moves out of range.
Schmeling fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mursu throws a nice looking combination but Schmeling bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Schmeling shoots and misses
and Mursu counters with a one-two to the body.
Mursu throws a left and a right that both miss
and Schmeling counters with a body kick that stops Mursu in his tracks momentarily.
Schmeling misses with a low kick as Mursu jumps back.

Schmeling scores a takedown into full mount!
Mursu sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Schmeling looks gassed!
Schmeling wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mursu keeps working.

Mursu preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Mursu gets full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mursu has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Mursu is looking to stand up but Schmeling isn't so interested in that idea.
Mursu pulls Schmeling in close to his closed guard and prevents Schmeling from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Schmeling prevents Mursu from getting back to his feet.
Mursu trying to keep a closed guard but Schmeling is proving a slippery customer.
Schmeling trying to control the position from guard on top but Mursu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round but I would say that Herra Mursu will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Schmeling throws a head kick that misses.
Mursu closes the distance and clinches up with Schmeling, looking for a takedown. Mursu pushes Schmeling against the cage but Schmeling circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mursu has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Schmeling avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Mursu has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Schmeling is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Mursu forces Schmeling back against the cage and clinches.
Mursu tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Schmeling smiles and moves away.
Schmeling falls off balance throwing a combination
and Mursu counters with a left and a right that stings Schmeling.
No joy there for Schmeling, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Schmeling lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Mursu moves out of range of the body kick.
Schmeling wants to clinch but Mursu slips to the side

and Mursu counters by clinching up.
Mursu lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Mursu keeps control of Schmeling as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Schmeling tries to pull guard but Mursu won't allow it.

Schmeling breaks the clinch.
Schmeling misses with the combination.
Schmeling has his takedown stuffed

and Mursu moves into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Schmeling breaks from the clinch.
Mursu has a takedown stuffed.
Mursu throws a right and a left that both miss.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Schmeling misses with a body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Max Schmeling will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Mursu tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Schmeling closes the distance but Mursu moves to the side
and Mursu counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Schmeling lands a head kick. Mursu smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Mursu moves into the clinch.
Mursu tries to pull guard but Schmeling holds him up against the cage and eventually Mursu drops back down to his feet.
Schmeling looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Mursu breaks the clinch.
Schmeling throws a push kick but Mursu slaps the foot to one side.
Schmeling takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mursu is trying hard to land a takedown here. Schmeling sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Max Schmeling seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Schmeling throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Mursu holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Mursu pulls guard successfully.
Schmeling wants to control from the top but Mursu keeps moving.
Mursu keeping full guard, as Schmeling tries to pass.
Schmeling must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mursu looking to hit a scissor sweep but Schmeling is one step ahead there.

Schmeling looking to sit in guard and control but Mursu gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Schmeling keeping moving, preventing Mursu from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

so Mursu counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Mursu slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Schmeling struggling a bit here.
Schmeling is looking for a sweep.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mursu tries for a kimura but Schmeling is defending well.
Schmeling really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mursu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Herra Mursu showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Mursu has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
