PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Leon King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Maxwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Leon King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brock Maxwell!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King moves out of range as Maxwell throws a body kick.
Leon King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

King shoots in and bounces Maxwell off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Maxwell is trying to control the position but King postures up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Maxwell can do anything to dispel that myth.
King throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
King controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Maxwell trying to keep a closed guard but King is proving a slippery customer.
King lands a couple of digs.
King works over Maxwell with some ground and pound from guard.
King trying to control but Maxwell is working from the bottom.
King is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maxwell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Maxwell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with King. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

King controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Maxwell wants to stand but King is controlling the position.
Maxwell is trying to keep King in close.
Maxwell wants to sweep here but King controlling him for the moment.

King has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Maxwell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
King wants to pass the guard but Maxwell is keeping the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

King makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
King not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Leon King just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
King tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Maxwell swivels and escapes.
King has a takedown stuffed.
Maxwell swings for the body but King moves out of range.
Maxwell looks to score with a jab to the body but King is just out of range.
King fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leon King. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Maxwell's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Maxwell duly obliges.
Maxwell displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from King.
King shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Maxwell as he jumps to the side.
Maxwell keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
King is breathing heavily.

King checks a leg kick nicely.
King circles away from the clinch attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from King.
King will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Maxwell bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
King gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Maxwell wants to stand but King has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Maxwell is trying to control. King wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
King preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Leon King will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Maxwell throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. King was covering up waiting for the punch and Maxwell finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Maxwell wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Maxwell counters with a two punch combo.

King keeping moving, preventing Maxwell from controlling successfully.
Maxwell might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control King kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
King bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Maxwell's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King sitting in guard, not really doing much.

King got a little sloppy there for a moment and Maxwell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, King has managed to get both his arms back between Maxwell's legs - danger averted.

King postures up and lands a big shot to Maxwell's brow.
King slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Maxwell controls King momentarily but King frees himself.

Maxwell not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Maxwell has momentary wrist control but King slips an elbow through the middle.
King seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
King is in close to Maxwell's body, working some short punches and elbows.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Leon King will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Maxwell decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
King is pressing down on Maxwell's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
King has his hands on Maxwell's head, controlling the position.
Maxwell is looking to stand up but King won't let him.
King manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Maxwell manages to get himself to full guard.

Maxwell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Maxwell takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Maxwell tries to buck King off but King is having none of it.
King slows the pace down.
Maxwell takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Maxwell can't do much from the bottom here.
A lull in the action here.
Maxwell tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Maxwell gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Maxwell in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
King lands a heavy elbow.
King is landing with some decent strikes but Maxwell is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

King cracks Maxwell with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Maxwell is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
King is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Maxwell can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Maxwell takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
BOOM! King connects with a massive shot to the dome!
King controlling his opponent.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Leon King showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for King, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
