PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sonny Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bubba Mcghee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hall kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Wake the dead. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sonny Hall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bubba Mcghee!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcghee moves in looking to clinch but Hall pushes him off.
Mcghee shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hall but Hall pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Nice sprawl there from Mcghee as Hall shoots in.
Mcghee wants to clinch.

Hall clinches up against the cage.
Hall tries for a takedown but Mcghee manages to get underhooks.
Mcghee has had enough of the clinch but Hall keeps him there for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hall breaks from the clinch.
Mcghee pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A head kick by Hall misses
and Mcghee counters with a big head kick but Hall shrugs it off.
Mcghee lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Mcghee throws a sloppy head kick

and Hall counters with a shoot takedown. Mcghee fights it but they end up in guard.

Hall gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Mcghee tries to clinch but fails miserably

so Hall counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hall trying to control the position from guard on top but Mcghee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hall wants to pass the guard but Mcghee is keeping the position.
Mcghee trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Mcghee is trying to control the position but Hall postures up.
Hall will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hall drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mcghee dives on top into guard.
Hall wants to sweep here but Mcghee controlling him for the moment.

Mcghee wants to control from the top but Hall keeps moving.
Hall controls Mcghee momentarily but Mcghee frees himself.
Mcghee must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mcghee is fighting to break Hall's control of his arms but Hall is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Hall is breathing heavily.
Hall is looking to stand up but Mcghee isn't so interested in that idea.
Mcghee wanted to stand there but Hall had control of the position.

Mcghee pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hall is keeping the position for now.
Mcghee is looking to stand up but Hall won't let him.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hall takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Hall throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Mcghee clinches but Hall breaks the clinch

and Hall counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Mcghee looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Hall is nestled in close to Mcghee, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Hall lands strikes from half guard.

Hall postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Mcghee to stand up.
Hall leaves Mcghee with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mcghee circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mcghee misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hall stops Mcghee from getting back to his feet.
Hall scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Hall looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Mcghee tries to kick Hall off but Hall keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Mcghee is not content to let Hall control the position.
Mcghee is breathing heavily.
Mcghee is trying to stand up here but Hall is controlling him well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mcghee is defending against the submission attempts here by Hall.
Hall content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hall has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Mcghee looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Hall lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hall in particular looking to stall.

Hall gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Mcghee tries to clinch but Hall moves away

so Hall counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hall trying to control the position from guard on top but Mcghee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hall is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Mcghee trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Hall stands and steps away. Mcghee gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Mcghee throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Hall's head.
Hall avoids the head kick by Mcghee.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hall throws a leg kick that is checked
and Mcghee counters with a head kick.
Mcghee lands a head kick. Hall smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Mcghee pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mcghee tries to clinch but Hall moves away

and Hall counters by clinching up.
Hall throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Mcghee blocks it with crossed arms.
Mcghee creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Hall's defenses.
Hall has Mcghee pressed against the cage, preventing Mcghee from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Hall wants to break free but Mcghee has control.
Mcghee prevents a body shot from Hall.
Hall tries to pull guard but Mcghee holds him up against the cage and eventually Hall drops back down to his feet.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Mcghee gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sonny Hall dominated that second round.
That's time! Hall's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Hall avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Hall looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Mcghee!

Hall pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Mcghee is trying to stand up.
Mcghee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hall. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hall scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Mcghee?
Mcghee is squirming around, avoiding Hall's attempts to control the action.
Hall throws some wild stikes that Mcghee manages to avoid easily.
Mcghee is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hall tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mcghee is squirming around, avoiding Hall's attempts to control the action.
Hall misses with a head shot.
Mcghee blocking the ground and pound.
Mcghee's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Mcghee can't escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hall trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Hall is landing with some decent strikes but Mcghee is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Hall controlling from the full mount.

Hall is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Mcghee has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Mcghee!
Hall is looking to stand up but Mcghee isn't so interested in that idea.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mcghee stopping the sweep attempt from Hall.
Mcghee trying to control but Hall is working from the bottom.
Sonny Hall is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hall has Mcghee pulled in close to control his posture.
Bubba Mcghee has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hall controls Mcghee momentarily but Mcghee frees himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sonny Hall showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hall, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
