The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bernardes connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Thompson momentarily.
Thompson takes one to the side of the head.

A left and a right from Bernardes both land. Nice combination.
Bernardes misses with the combination.
Thompson tries to clinch there but Bernardes circles away.
Bernardes goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Bernardes fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Bernardes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Bernardes wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Thompson has him pressed against the cage.
Thompson changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bernardes fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Roger Bernardes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thompson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Bernardes lands a slapping body shot.

Thompson drops his hands momentarily and Bernardes takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Thompson has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

The fighters circle momentarily. Bernardes darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Bernardes fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Bernardes rushes Thompson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Thompson is breathing heavily.
Thompson takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Bernardes might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Bernardes scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Bernardes clinches up against the cage.
Thompson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Bernardes pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Bernardes scores with a crisp jab that stopped Thompson in his tracks.

Thompson keeps control of Bernardes as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
A frustrated look appears on Bernardes's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Thompson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Bernardes's efforts to push away.

Bernardes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Thompson takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Bernardes is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Thompson had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Thompson takes one to the chin there.
Bernardes is working the combinations to good effect here.

Bernardes looks to land a combination. Thompson sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Thompson looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Bernardes lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Bernardes scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Thompson is rocked!
Bernardes lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Oh Thompson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Bernardes lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Bernardes drops Thompson with a beautiful combination! Thompson stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Bernardes is looking for the KO!
Bernardes dances in with a quick combination. Thompson is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Bernardes snaps Thompson's head back. Thompson stumbles backwards against the cage. Bernardes steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Thompson's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Thompson just didn't come prepared.
