PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Black Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Colton Red (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Black Powers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Colton Red!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good standup being displayed there by Red as he connects with a hook.
Red looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Powers takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Red swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Red throws a series of punches but Powers avoids them all with ease.
Powers doesn't manage to clinch there - Red circles away.
Powers shoots in looking for a takedown. Red tries to sprawl out of it but Powers keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Red manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Red misses with a jab, cross combination.
Powers moves in looking to clinch but Red pushes him off.
Red tries a head kick but it misses.
Powers changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Red tries to avoid it but Powers manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Red to the ground. Red escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Powers avoids a punch combination nicely.
Colton Red seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Powers feints and as Red raises his hands in defense, Powers changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Powers controls from within his opponent's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Red is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Powers is aware though and is defending well.
Powers not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Red can do anything to dispel that myth.
Red wants to stand and escape but Powers is having none of it.
Powers controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Powers seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Red for as long as he can get away with.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Black Powers just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Red throws a sloppy head kick and Powers moves out of range easily.
Nice takedown defense from Red. No joy for Powers on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Black Powers. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Powers closes the distance and clinches up with Red, looking for a takedown. Powers pushes Red against the cage but Red circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Red throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Powers.

Powers shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Red manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Red looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Powers puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Powers takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Red actively working from the bottom here.
Red has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Powers is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Black Powers just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Powers dives in and grabs Red's left leg, looking for a takedown. Red pushes down on Powers's head and hops out.
Powers avoids a punch combination nicely.
Horrible takedown by Powers or perhaps it was just good defense by Red which made him look bad.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Black Powers dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Powers avoids the head kick by Red.
Red throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Red tries a head kick but it misses.

Powers feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Powers passes Red's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Powers is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Powers's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Powers prevents Red from improving his position.
Powers is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Red!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Red tries to improve his position but instead Powers has taken his back!
Red is really stuck here.
Red wants to control his opponent's hands but Powers gets his hands free.
Powers controlling the position well here. Red rolled but Powers kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Black Powers just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Red works over Powers's head and body with a nice combination.
Red misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Red misses with a series of wild punches.
Powers shoots in but no luck this time.
Red looks to land a combination but Powers avoids it well.

Powers is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Red's half guard.

Red pushes Powers off looking to stand but Powers dives back in and keeps control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Powers shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Red sprawls well. Red wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Powers gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Black Powers dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Red lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Powers backs up against the cage.
Powers fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Red avoids it really well and circles away.
Powers walks into a stiff left hand from Red.

Powers closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Powers lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powers's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Red working a defensive guard but Powers passes into half guard.
Powers is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Red!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Red tries to hold on but Powers pushes him away.
Powers takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Black Powers overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Red wants to control but Powers is having none of it.
Powers controlling his opponent.
Powers has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Colton Red has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Red is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Powers tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Black Powers just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Red fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Red misses with the combination.
Red missing with a left hand there. Powers was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Powers shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Red manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Red can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Powers controls the pace.

Black Powers showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Powers, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
