PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Josef Kempton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pierre Gander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Josef Kempton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pierre Gander!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kempton is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gander.
Gander moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Kempton looks to throw the jab but Gander is out of range.
Kempton looks to score with a jab to the body but Gander is just out of range.
Kempton throws a shot to the body.

Kempton gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gander to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Kempton might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gander trying to control but Kempton is working from the bottom.

Kempton working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gander doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gander manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kempton is trying to keep Gander in close.

Kempton had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gander defends it easily.
Kempton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gander is one step ahead there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gander wants to pass the guard but Kempton is keeping the position.
Kempton keeping moving, preventing Gander from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Gander gets a clinch.

Gander gets control of Kempton's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gander will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kempton preventing the sweep.

Kempton drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gander dives on top into guard.
Gander trying to control but Kempton is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gander decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kempton, up you get!
Gander avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kempton lands with a straight right. Gander didn't see that one coming.

Gander moves into the clinch.
Kempton tries to pull guard but Gander holds him up against the cage and eventually Kempton drops back down to his feet.

Gander wants the takedown. Kempton is fighting it off but Gander persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Kempton's guard against the cage.
Gander wanted to stand there but Kempton had control of the position.

Gander stands and steps away. Kempton gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Gander looks gassed!

Kempton tries to keep at a distance but Gander has taken the fight into the clinch.
Gander stalling against the cage.
Gander receives a warning from the referee for stalling.
Kempton fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Gander is stalling here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kempton tries to pull guard but Gander won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josef Kempton. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Gander works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Kempton knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gander on the ground.
Gander trying to control the position from guard on top but Kempton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kempton controls Gander momentarily but Gander frees himself.
Gander trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Kempton has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Gander off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Gander is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Kempton.
Gander gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kempton connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.


Gander is rocked!
Kempton lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Gander falls backwards - clearly groggy! Kempton dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Josef Kempton!
