PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Damon Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billa Bong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stone comes into the arena with One Step Closer by Linkin Park blaring out of the sound system. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Billa Bong was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Damon Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Billa Bong!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone throws a series of punches but Bong avoids them all with ease.

Bong throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Stone was covering up waiting for the punch and Bong finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Bong wants to control from the top but Stone keeps moving.
Stone is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Stone has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bong can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Stone manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bong manages to get himself to full guard.

Bong trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Stone is working Bong over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Stone drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bong manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Stone has Bong in his guard.

Stone is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bong is aware though and is defending well.

Bong lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Bong working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Stone's head.
Stone throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Bong's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Bong throwing strikes but missing.
Stone tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Stone shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bong counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Stone thinking.
Bong throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Stone's waist but Stone gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bong off to one side.
Stone misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Stone has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Bong finds it's way round the side to connect with Stone's head.
Stone gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Bong.

Bong slips a straight right by Stone.
Bong scores with a hook to the body. Stone takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Damon Stone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bong lands a nice shot to the body.
Bong lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Bong feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Stone has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bong slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Stone manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
BOOM! Stone connects with a massive shot to the dome!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Billa Bong will probably get the nod.
That's time! Stone's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Bong changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Stone tries to avoid it but Bong manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Stone to the ground. Stone escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Stone throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bong sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Stone misses with a looping left.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Bong!
Damon Stone is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Stone shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bong counters with a stiff right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bong bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bong lands some shots froms side control.
Check out the look on Bong's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Bong is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Stone sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Stone makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Stone.
Stone wants to sweep here but Bong controlling him for the moment.
Bong slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Bong trying to control the position from guard on top but Stone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Stone had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bong defends it easily.

Stone is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bong defends well.

Stone wants to sweep here but Bong controlling him for the moment.
Bong really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stone. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bong stands up over Stone, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Bong is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bong makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Billa Bong has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bong lands a couple of digs.
Stone looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Stone is on top in guard.
Stone throws a strike but Bong rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Stone is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Billa Bong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Stone throws a shot from downtown. Bong moves away and avoids it.

Bong swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Stone throws a left and a right that both miss
and Stone takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Bong counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Bong's corner calls for a 1-2. Bong obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bong fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Stone manages to avoid it.

Bong shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stone but Stone pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Stone ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Bong has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Stone throws a hook but Bong blocks it.
Stone lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bong circles away quickly and effectively.

Billa Bong is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Bong punishes Stone's body with a nice straight punch.
Stone throws a hook but Bong blocks it.
Stone loads up on a big right hand but Bong slips the punch.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Bong throws a combination. Stone tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Stone with a poor takedown
and Bong connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Stone takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Stone misses with a hook. Bong ducked under it nicely.
Stone with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Bong to score with a decent uppercut.
Bong connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Stone momentarily.

Billa Bong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Bong winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
