PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Barzakov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raul Santiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Barzakov might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Alexander The Great by Iron Maiden. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alexander Barzakov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Raul Santiago!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santiago lands with a shot to the body.

Santiago gets caught flat footed, as Barzakov shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Santiago utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Barzakov is fighting to break Santiago's control of his arms but Santiago is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Santiago can do anything to dispel that myth.
Barzakov keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Santiago's head.

Santiago might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Barzakov kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Barzakov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Santiago swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Santiago wants to free his trapped foot but Barzakov is holding on for dear life with his legs.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Santiago wants to stand up but Barzakov has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Santiago is trying to control the action in half guard but Barzakov is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Santiago fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Barzakov shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Santiago but Santiago pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Santiago stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Santiago wants it to stay on the feet.

Santiago cracks Barzakov with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Santiago will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Barzakov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Santiago tries to avoid it but Barzakov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Santiago to the ground. Santiago escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Raul Santiago showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Santiago is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
