Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luiz Fernandes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Correa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Fernandes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Correa!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fernandes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Correa, pushing him back against the cage.

Fernandes has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Correa is trying to keep an underhook but Fernandes manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Fernandes looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Correa is controlling Fernandes's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Correa is looking to get back to full guard here but Fernandes has managed to pass to side control instead.
Correa tries to hold on but Fernandes pushes him away.
Fernandes lands a big elbow.
Fernandes avoids the attempt from Correa to control.
Fernandes lands a heavy elbow.

Fernandes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Fernandes can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Correa is looking to escape.
Correa tries to lock up and control but Fernandes gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Fernandes moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Correa has worked his arm free - good work by Correa!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fernandes tries to score with some ground and pound. Correa controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Correa sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Fernandes not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Despite being in the dominant position, Michael Correa just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Fernandes shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Correa is looking to control Fernandes's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Correa avoid being mounted?
Correa is doing well to control the position and prevent Fernandes from advancing to side control.

Correa looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Fernandes seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Correa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Fernandes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Correa keeps working.

Fernandes looks to land a combination. Correa sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Fernandes fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Correa sprawls well initially but Fernandes persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Correa is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fernandes pulls his head out easily.
Correa scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Fernandes manages to mount him!
Correa is breathing heavily.
Correa is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Correa is trying to reverse the position but instead Fernandes has taken his back - oops!
Fernandes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Correa on the ground.
Correa looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Fernandes is hanging on to Correa's back as he tries to escape.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee is taking a good look at Correa as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Fernandes!

Fernandes is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Correa has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Correa is trapped and Fernandes is scoring with shots to the head and body.

Fernandes lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Fernandes is not going to allow Correa to sit and survive in this position.
Correa tries to escape the position.
Correa trying to control the hands but Fernandes breaks the grip.

Fernandes has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Correa has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Correa wants to control his opponent's hands but Fernandes gets his hands free.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Correa covers up after that shot from Fernandes.
Correa has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Fernandes trying to control momentarily.
Correa tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Correa tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Fernandes content just to control the position here.

Fernandes is standing up, even though he is in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Fernandes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Fernandes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Correa with a poor takedown
and Fernandes counters with a left and a right that stings Correa.


It looks like Michael Correa has been cut.
Correa swats away the attempt to clinch by Fernandes.
Luiz Fernandes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fernandes throws the kick towards the body but Correa avoids it.

and Fernandes counters with a head kick. That will keep Correa thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Fernandes tries to clinch there but Correa circles away.
Correa doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Fernandes counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Correa's guard now.
Luiz Fernandes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Correa.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Fernandes wants to pass the guard but Correa is keeping the position.

Correa isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Fernandes stacks Correa on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Fernandes!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Fernandes stands up and beckons Correa to his feet.
Fernandes throws a head kick that misses.

Correa is looking to control Fernandes's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Correa avoid being mounted?

Fernandes perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Correa tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Fernandes not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Correa is trying to control but can't.
Michael Correa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Fernandes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Correa's guard.

Correa is looking for a triangle but Fernandes pushes his legs off easily.
Correa doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Fernandes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fernandes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Luiz Fernandes is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Correa is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Luiz Fernandes showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Fernandes has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
