Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil DeBlunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Connely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DeBlunt comes to the cage accompanied by Westside Connection - Bow Down. The key to victory for Phil DeBlunt has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil DeBlunt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dan Connely!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Connely thows a left - swing and a miss!
Connely takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Connely blocks a jab.
Connely shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says DeBlunt as he avoids it easily.
DeBlunt missing with a left hand there. Connely was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Connely is trying hard to land a takedown here. DeBlunt sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Connely fakes high and swings low for a body shot but DeBlunt manages to avoid it.
DeBlunt fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
DeBlunt fails to land with a series of punches.
Connely throws a hook but DeBlunt avoids it easily.
Good exchange - Connely coming out on top.
Connely shoots for a double leg takedown but DeBlunt sprawls well. He's pushed Connely's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Phil DeBlunt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Connely.
DeBlunt throws a hook but Connely blocks it.

Connely bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
DeBlunt is looking to reverse the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

DeBlunt parries the strikes from Connely easily there. Connely is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable DeBlunt to escape.
Connely landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Connely cracks DeBlunt with a big right hand but DeBlunt just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Connely postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
DeBlunt is trying to buck Connely off.

DeBlunt explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

DeBlunt ducks right into an uppercut from Connely.

Connely throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. DeBlunt was covering up waiting for the punch and Connely finishes the takedown easily into guard.
DeBlunt is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Connely gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Phil DeBlunt is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
DeBlunt throws a lazy right hand but Connely sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Connely slips under a jab from DeBlunt.
Connely thows a body shot but no joy.
Good shot there by Connely.


It looks like Phil DeBlunt has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
DeBlunt slips a straight right by Connely.
Connely swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Connely takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

DeBlunt slips a jab from Connely.
Connely throws a body punch but DeBlunt moves out of range.

Connely shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Connely showed some decent athleticism there.
Connely has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Connely is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and DeBlunt defends it well.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Connely connects with a nice short shot to DeBlunt's temple.
Connely seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
DeBlunt tries to get to full guard but Connely has control of the leg.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Connely lands a nice short elbow.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
DeBlunt trying to hold on to Connely's head to control him but Connely postures up.
DeBlunt won't allow Connely to pass to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and DeBlunt counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

DeBlunt wants to stand back up but Connely manages to pass into side control.

Connely just content to control the position.

Let's hope that Connely has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Connely wants to lay and pray for a moment but DeBlunt keeps working.
DeBlunt regains half guard.
Connely thows a huge punch but DeBlunt dodges it nicely.
DeBlunt wants to control but Connely is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Still in half guard, Connely seems content to control.
DeBlunt tries to get to full guard but Connely has control of the leg.
Connely not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Connely tries to pass to full mount but DeBlunt defends it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
DeBlunt avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Connely misses with a looping left.
Connely lands with a hook. DeBlunt tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Connely throws an overhand right that lands on DeBlunt's shoulder, as DeBlunt tries to avoid the shot.
DeBlunt cracks Connely with a right hand to the side of the head.
A swing and a miss from Connely.
DeBlunt looks to land a combination but Connely avoids it well.
Connely jabbing away but nothing is landing.
DeBlunt is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Dan Connely seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Connely moves out of range as DeBlunt strikes.
Connely takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
DeBlunt steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Connely.

A close second round but Dan Connely will probably get the nod - 10:9.

DeBlunt lands a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut. Oh and another big punch and a knee - Connely can't take much more of this! Another big shot to the jaw from DeBlunt and Connely drops to the floor. Beaten and bloodied - he had enough there. A vicious beatdown by DeBlunt.
