Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Andrew Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mikail Kushkov!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kushkov looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Alves throws a right and a left that both miss.

Alves shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kushkov manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Alves is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Alves drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Alves jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Alves drops back looking for a leg! Kushkov is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kushkov manages to kick Alves off! Alves jumps back into Kushkov's guard.
Alves tries to free his leg and advance position but Kushkov is retaining full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alves thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Alves drops back looking for a leg! Kushkov is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kushkov manages to kick Alves off! Alves jumps back into Kushkov's guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Alves shoots in looking for a takedown. Kushkov tries to sprawl out of it but Alves keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kushkov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A combination from Alves does no damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Alves tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kushkov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Alves somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrew Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Alves finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Horrible takedown by Alves or perhaps it was just good defense by Kushkov which made him look bad.
Alves shoots for a double leg takedown but Kushkov sprawls well. He's pushed Alves's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Some bone on bone action there as Kushkov checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Alves scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


It looks like Mikail Kushkov has been cut.
No joy there for Alves, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alves throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Alves tries to land a leg kick but Kushkov saw it coming and moves away.

Alves scores with a takedown into Kushkov's guard.
Alves really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kushkov looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Alves drops back looking for a leg! Kushkov is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kushkov manages to kick Alves off! Alves jumps back into Kushkov's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Alves thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Alves forces his way into half guard.

Alves seems to be looking for submissions.

Alves in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Kushkov tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Alves!
