Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michael Harp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Base (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rob Base is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Harp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rob Base!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Franklyn Lucas and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harp tries to clinch up but Base circles away and keeps his distance.
Base tries a head kick but it misses.
Base misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Harp counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Harp slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Harp loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Harp might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Base wants to stand but Harp is controlling the position.

Base is looking to sweep but instead, Harp has passed into half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Harp content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Harp wants to pass the guard but Base is defending well.

Harp thows a huge punch but Base dodges it nicely.
Harp seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Base is looking to control Harp's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Base avoid being mounted?

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Harp is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Base doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Harp.
Well, if Harp is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Base closes the distance looking to clinch

and Harp counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Base!

Harp is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Base has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Base!

Harp seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Base wants to control from the top but Harp keeps moving.

Harp pulls Base in close to his closed guard and prevents Base from doing any damage or advancing position.

Base slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Base is breathing heavily.

Harp has his feet on Base's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Harp tries to close the distance and clinch but Base swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Harp shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Harp showed some decent athleticism there.
Harp takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Base trying to control but Harp postures up.

Base wants to control but Harp is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Harp wants to pass to mount but Base is defending the position.

Harp thows a huge punch but Base dodges it nicely.

Harp is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Harp seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Base for as long as he can get away with.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Michael Harp just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Harp gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Base jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Harp walks away with a smile on his face. Base gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

so Harp counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Base bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Harp's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Harp avoids a punch combination nicely.

Harp closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Harp scores with a hook to the body.

Harp drags the fight down to the ground.
Base being controlled here momentarily.
Michael Harp overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Harp has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Base takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Harp working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Base doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Base manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Base accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Michael Harp just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Harp shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Base napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Base is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Harp tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A lull in the action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Michael Harp showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Harp has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
