Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Albert Ashton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Richard Callaghan!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ashton slips under a jab.
Callaghan throws a looping overhand right but Ashton ducks down to avoid it.
Ashton shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Callaghan as he jumps to the side.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ashton.
Callaghan throws a jab but it's blocked by Ashton.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ashton keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Callaghan.
A lazy left from Callaghan finds it's target.

Ashton fails with a takedown attempt.

Ashton postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Callaghan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ashton, into his guard.
Callaghan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Callaghan might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Callaghan takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Ashton looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Callaghan is fending him off so far but Ashton persists. Nope, Callaghan circles away and we're back to standing.

Callaghan gets underhooks to prevent Ashton's takedown attempt.
Ashton is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Callaghan pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Ashton is trying to drag Callaghan to the mat but Callaghan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Ashton is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Callaghan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Callaghan lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Ashton walks into a jab.
Ashton tries to clinch up.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Callaghan, as that shot connected.
Ashton steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Callaghan.
No luck for Ashton with that takedown attempt.
Callaghan looks to score with a jab to the body but Ashton is just out of range.

Ashton takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Albert Ashton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ashton ducks under a wild hook from Callaghan.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Callaghan.
Ashton closes this distance looking for a takedown but Callaghan circles away.
Ashton walks into a straight right hand from Callaghan.

Richard Callaghan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Horrible takedown by Ashton or perhaps it was just good defense by Callaghan which made him look bad.

Ashton fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Ashton closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ashton lands in his opponent's guard.
Ashton wants to pass the guard but Callaghan is keeping the position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Callaghan works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ashton wants to get back to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Callaghan sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Callaghan tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ashton knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Callaghan prevents Ashton from improving his position.
Callaghan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Callaghan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ashton does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Callaghan lands a lovely overhand right.

And that's the end of the fight!

I've got Callaghan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
