The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Deep displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

It looks like Joseph Cortez has been cut.
Deep lands with an overhand left.
Deep throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cortez.
Deep connects with a crisp jab.
Deep throws a series of punches but Cortez avoids them all with ease.
Cortez takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Deep changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Matt Deep seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Deep throws a series of strikes that have Cortez backpedaling.
Deep tries to bum rush Cortez with a series of wild strikes but Cortez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cortez has control of Deep's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Deep regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cortez is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Deep has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Deep!

Cortez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Deep is fending him off so far but Cortez persists. Nope, Deep circles away and we're back to standing.

Deep lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Cortez shoots in looking for a takedown. Deep tries to sprawl out of it but Cortez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Deep manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
