PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Howard Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jordan Dawick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Howard Jones has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Howard Jones seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Howard Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jordan Dawick!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dawick lands with a cross.


It looks like Howard Jones has been cut.
Jones throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Jordan Dawick has been cut.
Jab by Jones.
Jones stuffs the takedown attempt from Dawick. Dawick gets slowly back to his feet.
Dawick shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jones lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dawick needs to keep his hands up - Jones had a free shot at his head there.
Jones throws a right hand that Dawick ducks under and follows up with a left that Dawick also avoids with ease.
Dawick shoots in for a double leg but Jones sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Howard Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jordan Dawick.

Jones forces Dawick back against the cage and clinches.
Dawick tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Jones breaks the clinch.
Jones misses with a wild body shot.
Jones throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dawick.
Jones swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Dawick shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jones pinned against the cage. Jones gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Jones moves into the clinch successfully.
Dawick has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Jones ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Jones no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Jones utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Dawick trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
Jones looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Dawick trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jones wants to sweep but no luck.
Jones is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Jones content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Jones lands with a punch from half guard.
Jones thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Dawick regains full guard. Nicely done.
Jones with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Jones has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones wants to pass the guard but Dawick is keeping the position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jones working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Jones makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Dawick is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jones sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Left hook, right uppercut from Jones.

Jones clinches with his opponent.
Dawick fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Dawick stalling.
Dawick tries to score a body lock takedown but Jones shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Dawick keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jones lands with a shot to the body.
Jones lands a jab to Dawick's midsection.
Jones lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Jones.

Jones decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dawick tries to get to full guard but Jones has control of the leg.
It looks like Jones is going to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Dawick slips a jab and a cross from Jones.
Howard Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Dawick closes the distance looking to clinch
and Jones counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Jones scores with a leg kick.
Dawick doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Dawick is trying desperately to land a takedown but Jones is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Dawick.
The fighters circle momentarily. Jones darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Howard Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Dawick pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Jones is looking to improve his position but Dawick isn't that keen on the idea.

Jones is in all sorts of trouble here.
Dawick throws some wild stikes that Jones manages to avoid easily.

Dawick cracks Jones with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Dawick can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jones is looking to escape.

Dawick is working for a guillotine from mount but Jones frees his head quite easily.

Dawick gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Jones fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Howard Jones is winning the standup battle so far.
Dawick with a poor takedown
and Jones counters with a solid body kick.
Jones lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Dawick backs up against the cage.
A right-left combo lands from Jones.
Dawick on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Jones. Jones obviously looking to wear him down.
Jones scores with a decent looking hook.
Jones throws and low kick but Dawick moves out of range easily.

Jones has managed to clinch.
Dawick stalling in the clinch but Jones improves position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

and Jones counters with a three punch combo that has Dawick backing up. Dawick nods at Jones to acknowledge the strikes.
Jones misses with a low kick.
Jones scores with a body shot.
Jones circles away from the clinch attempt
and Jones counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Jones closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jones lands in his opponent's guard.
Jones would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dawick bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jones's guard.
Jones is trying to keep Dawick in close.

Jones has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dawick wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Jones is adopting a defensive guard.

Jones is working an open guard so Dawick takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Dawick gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Jones counters with a left to the body.
Howard Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Jones is looking to wear down Dawick with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
