PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tony Duncan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JJ Goodis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that JJ Goodis was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Duncan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, JJ Goodis!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duncan circles away from the clinch attempt.
Duncan dives in and grabs Goodis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Goodis pushes down on Duncan's head and hops out.
Duncan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Goodis but Goodis pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Goodis stuffs the takedown.

Duncan is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Goodis has managed to escape the submission attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

JJ Goodis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Duncan shoots in and bounces Goodis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Duncan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Goodis to the mat! Goodis manages to get full guard.

The fight stays on the outside here - Goodis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Duncan tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Goodis smiles and moves away.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Duncan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Goodis is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Goodis has escaped and now he's on top!

Duncan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Goodis can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Duncan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Goodis defends well.

Goodis decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Duncan, up you get!

and Duncan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Goodis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Duncan controls the pace.

Duncan postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Goodis is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Duncan, into his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Goodis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Duncan has his foot on Goodis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Goodis works his way back into a safe position though.

Duncan has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Goodis is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Duncan.

Goodis decides to stand up, so the ref orders Duncan to his feet.
Goodis fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Duncan.

and Duncan counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Goodis's guard now.
Duncan wants to control from the top but Goodis keeps moving.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Tony Duncan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Duncan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
