PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Colt Hardin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shogun Chua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chua has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Shogun Chua is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chua shoots in for a takedown but Hardin shows good takedown defense.
Chua looks gassed!

Hardin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Chua looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Hardin wants to control but Chua is keeping him busy.
Chua is trying to get back to half guard.

Hardin decides to stand up, so the ref orders Chua to his feet.
Chua shoots and misses

and Hardin counters by clinching up.

Chua drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hardin manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Chua has Hardin in his guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Chua has his foot on Hardin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hardin works his way back into a safe position though.
Hardin is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hardin makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Hardin wants to control from the top but Chua keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chua has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hardin is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Chua.

Hardin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Hardin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Chua is just riding it out for now. Hardin eventually gives up the hold.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hardin prevents Chua from improving his position.
Hardin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chua on the ground.
Chua is looking to get back to full guard here but Hardin has managed to pass to side control instead.

That was a close round but I would say that Colt Hardin will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Hardin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Colt Hardin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Chua is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Hardin won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Chua off his unconscious opponent!
