Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Shimada and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carrillio closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Carrillio wants to control but Holmen is keeping him busy.
Carrillio gets to mount! Holmen was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Carrillio prevents Holmen from getting the reversal.
Carrillio can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Holmen is looking to escape.
Holmen tries to hold on but Carrillio postures up.

Holmen is in all sorts of trouble here.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carrillio has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Holmen is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Carrillio instigates a clinch.
Carrillio is working for takedown but Holmen is calmly controlling the position for now.

Holmen decides to pull guard.
Holmen looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Carrillio stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Holmen swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carrillio is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Holmen looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Carrillio passes into half guard.
Holmen wants to get back to full guard.
Well, if Carrillio is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Carrillio fails with an attempt to clinch.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Carrillio.
Holmen is trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carrillio decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Holmen looks to clinch

and Carrillio counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Carrillio.

Carrillio stopping the sweep attempt from Holmen.
Carrillio trying to control the position from guard on top but Holmen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Carrillio got a little sloppy there for a moment and Holmen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carrillio has managed to get both his arms back between Holmen's legs - danger averted.
Carrillio won't allow Holmen to sweep him here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Carrillio dives in and grabs Holmen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Holmen pushes down on Carrillio's head and hops out.
Holmen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Holmen wants to improve his position but Carrillio is controlling well.
Holmen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carrillio is working away from the top position though.

Holmen looks to move to half guard but instead Carrillio has passed into mount! Damn!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Holmen is pressing down on Carrillio's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Holmen looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Carrillio slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Holmen tries to improve position but can't.
Holmen can't do much from the bottom here.

Holmen is letting Carrillio control him for a moment.
Holmen sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Carrillio perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Holmen wants to get back to full guard.
Holmen manages to get to full guard.
Kenny Carrillio is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Holmen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carrillio gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Holmen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Carrillio is one step ahead there.
Kenny Carrillio overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Carrillio wants to get up but he can't break Holmen's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Sami Holmen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Carrillio stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Holmen to get to his feet.

Well Carrillio has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
