PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jose De La Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Enyo Kei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think De La Cruz might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to forever. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose De La Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Enyo Kei!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Seu Braga and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kei shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
De La Cruz wants to control but Kei is having none of it.
Kei looking to control and managing it successfully.
De La Cruz is in all sorts of trouble here.
Kei lands with some strikes.
De La Cruz is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
De La Cruz tries to lock up and control but Kei gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
De La Cruz really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kei wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
De La Cruz has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
De La Cruz trying to control the action but Kei just sinks the hooks in.
Kei lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can De La Cruz hold on?!
De La Cruz turns into Kei and is now in his guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kei holds on and takes a little breather.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kei wants to stand but De La Cruz is controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kei looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Let's hope that Kei has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
De La Cruz looking to pass the guard.
De La Cruz wanted to stand there but Kei had control of the position.
De La Cruz trying to control the position from guard on top but Kei is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kei controlling the position.
Kei wants to stand up but De La Cruz is controlling him.
Kei is pulling down on De La Cruz's head to control his posture.
De La Cruz stopping the sweep attempt from Kei.

Kei kicks De La Cruz off and gets to his feet.
De La Cruz misses with a takedown attempt

and Kei counters with a shoot takedown. De La Cruz fights it but they end up in guard.
De La Cruz is breathing heavily.
Kei working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Kei trying to control but De La Cruz is working from the bottom.
De La Cruz is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kei trying to control the position from guard on top but De La Cruz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kei drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but De La Cruz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kei has De La Cruz in his guard.
Kei looking for a sweep. Not yet Kei, not yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Enyo Kei dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kei fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
De La Cruz closes the distance looking to clinch

and Kei moves into the clinch.
De La Cruz is trying to drag Kei to the mat but Kei just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Kei has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. De La Cruz is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Kei has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. De La Cruz avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Jose De La Cruz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Enyo Kei.

De La Cruz lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
De La Cruz prevents Kei from improving his position.
Kei has his hands clasped together around De La Cruz's back. He's all about the action.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kei is staying active underneath De La Cruz, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Kei is doing well to control the position and prevent De La Cruz from advancing to side control.
Kei is trying to get back to full guard.
De La Cruz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kei does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Kei changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. De La Cruz looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Kei cracks De La Cruz with a big right hand but De La Cruz just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
De La Cruz is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Kei is looking for a kimura here.
De La Cruz tries to roll over but Kei keeps him under control.
Kei is looking to take a break and control but De La Cruz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
It looks like Kei is going to stand back up.

De La Cruz regains full guard. Nicely done.
Kei throws and elbow that misses. De La Cruz uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kei's guard. Nice move by De La Cruz!
Kei is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kei trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Kei is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
De La Cruz trying to control the position from guard on top but Kei is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kei is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

A right handed body shot lands from De La Cruz.
Kei has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. De La Cruz avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
De La Cruz tries to score a body lock takedown but Kei shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
De La Cruz stops a takedown attempt from Kei.

De La Cruz jumps guard and drags Kei to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Kei wanted to stand there but De La Cruz had control of the position.
De La Cruz trying to control the position.
Kei stays in close to De La Cruz's body and controls the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jose De La Cruz will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



De La Cruz closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kei wants to control but De La Cruz is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Kei makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Kei tries to pass the half guard into mount. De La Cruz knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Kei stalling away here and it's allowed De La Cruz to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Kei seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
De La Cruz is trying to keep Kei in close.

De La Cruz has momentary wrist control but Kei slips an elbow through the middle.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Kei drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kei lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear De La Cruz down.
De La Cruz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kei wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
You can see the frustration on De La Cruz's face as Kei controls the position.

Kei decides to stand back up.
Kei keeps the fight on the outside.

Kei fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. De La Cruz sprawls well initially but Kei persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

De La Cruz tries to kick Kei off but Kei keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
De La Cruz trying to control here.
Kei not doing much here.

Kei is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. De La Cruz doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kei.
Enyo Kei has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kei is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

And that's the end of the fight!
Enyo Kei comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kei has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
