PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steven Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mando Max (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 2, fighting out of London, Steven Shaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Mando Max!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Sam Margolis and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Max is looking to clinch.

Shaw shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Max is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Max wants to get back to full guard.

Shaw is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Shaw throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Shaw controlling the pace.

Shaw is looking for a kimura here.

Shaw is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Max to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

Max looking to control.
Max wants to stand but Shaw is controlling the position.
Max is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Max is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Max had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Shaw defends it easily.
Shaw really is a fat lump.

Shaw drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shaw jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Shaw works over Max with some ground and pound from guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Shaw throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Max works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Shaw is pushing down on Max's leg trying to pass to half guard. Max is fighting to maintain full guard but Shaw has managed to sneak the leg through.

Shaw seems to be working for a kimura but Max defends the submission attempt.
Shaw is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Shaw prevents Max from improving his position.

Shaw is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Shaw is working for a kimura but Max is defending it quite comfortably.

Max misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Max is looking to control Shaw's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Max avoid being mounted?
Shaw wants to take a breather but Max is having none of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Max lands with a nice body kick.

Max shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Shaw's guard.

Max looking to sit in guard and control but Shaw gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Max controls Shaw momentarily but Shaw frees himself.
Shaw slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Steven Shaw will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Max misses with a takedown

and Shaw counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Shaw drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Max manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Shaw has Max in his guard.
Max missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Max is breathing heavily.

Max trying to control the position from guard on top but Shaw is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shaw wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Shaw is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Shaw is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Shaw is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Max doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Shaw.
Max wants to improve his position but Shaw is controlling well.

Shaw is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Max wants to control but Shaw is keeping busy.

Max wants to get back to full guard.

Shaw is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Max sees it coming and defends easily.
Max trying to control from the bottom.
Max misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Max shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Shaw counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Shaw drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shaw jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Max is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Shaw is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Shaw has escaped and now he's on top!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steven Shaw dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Shaw drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Shaw wants to control from the top but Max keeps moving.

Shaw stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Max misses with a takedown
and Shaw makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Max takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Max throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Shaw shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Shaw was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Shaw goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Max turns into him and now he's in Shaw's guard.
Max has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Shaw is proving hard to escape from.
Max wants to control from the top but Shaw keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Max looking to sit in guard and control but Shaw gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Shaw advances position into side control!
Shaw lands some shots froms side control.

Shaw is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Max has escaped the position, nice work there.
Steven Shaw overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Shaw stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Max wants to clinch

and Shaw counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Max's guard now.
Shaw trying to control but Max is working from the bottom.

Shaw thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Max working for a triangle but Shaw defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shaw slips nicely into half guard.

Max tries to kick Shaw off but Shaw keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Shaw is looking to take a break and control but Max is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Shaw seems to be working for a kimura but Max defends the submission attempt.
Mando Max has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Steven Shaw is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Max flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shaw, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
