Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gustavo Assis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benny Bjerke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bjerke is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Turbonegro - Get It On. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Assis! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Benny Bjerke! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Assis fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Assis gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Bjerke must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Bjerke trying to control the position from guard on top but Assis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bjerke looking to sit in guard and control but Assis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Assis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bjerke swivels though and keeps the full guard. Bjerke lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Assis! Bjerke wants to control the pace but Assis is squirming around nicely. Bjerke prevents Assis from getting the reversal.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bjerke has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Assis has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Bjerke lands shots from the back. Bjerke trying to control. Bjerke seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Assis's chin but Assis turns very nicely into Bjerke's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Assis.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Assis tries to free his leg and advance position but Bjerke is retaining full guard. Bjerke is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Bjerke keeping full guard, as Assis tries to pass. Assis is working hard here to advance position. Assis slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Assis swings around for an armbar but Bjerke sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Assis's guard. Assis tries to land a sweep but no joy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Assis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Bjerke trying to control but Assis postures up.
Bjerke keeping hold of Assis's head, controlling as best he can. Bjerke is trying to get back to full guard. Assis is trying to work for a kimura but Bjerke is defending well.
Assis has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Assis seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Bjerke is holding on tight.
Bjerke can't escape the position.
Bjerke throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Assis jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Bjerke is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Bjerke and Assis has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Assis tries to advance to mount but Bjerke instead regains half guard. Bjerke slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Assis works a leg free and moves into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Benny Bjerke dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Assis shoots and misses and Bjerke counters by clinching up. Bjerke content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Bjerke breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Bjerke gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Assis to score an easy takedown into full guard. Assis is pushing down on Bjerke's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bjerke is fighting to maintain full guard but Assis has managed to sneak the leg through. Assis is working for a submission of some sort.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Bjerke is adopting a defensive guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Assis looking to pass the guard. Bjerke is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Assis pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bjerke is keeping the position for now. Bjerke manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Bjerke stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Assis fails with the takedown and Bjerke counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Bjerke trying to control but Assis is working from the bottom. Bjerke gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Bjerke looks to score with a jab to the body but Assis is just out of range. Bjerke pushes Assis up against the cage in a clinch. Bjerke has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Assis is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Bjerke pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Bjerke looking to land some kicks to the body here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Bjerke stands up and beckons Assis to his feet. Bjerke has his takedown stuffed and Assis counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Assis is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Bjerke has managed to free his arm - good work. Bjerke is trying to stand back up but Assis is controlling him
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Bjerke moves into full guard.

A close second round but Benny Bjerke will probably get the nod - 10:9. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Assis with a poor takedown and Bjerke counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bjerke. Assis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bjerke can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Bjerke trying to control but Assis is working from the bottom. Assis is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Bjerke trying to control the position from guard on top but Assis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Bjerke shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Bjerke won't allow Assis to sweep him here. Assis is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bjerke is aware though and is defending well. Bjerke is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Bjerke tries to stand but Assis is controlling from the bottom. Bjerke is stalling in the full guard. Bjerke stands and steps away. Assis gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Assis gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Bjerke counters with a shoot takedown. Assis fights it but they end up in guard. Assis is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Bjerke gets to his feet. Assis looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Bjerke lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Assis backs up against the cage.
Assis gets caught flat footed, as Bjerke shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Benny Bjerke has got the better of the ground game so far. Bjerke connects with a couple of short punches. Bjerke sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Assis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bjerke gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Assis keeping moving, preventing Bjerke from controlling successfully. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Assis throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
And that's the end of the fight! Benny Bjerke comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Bjerke has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
