PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Raymond Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kris Tarbois (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Raymond Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kris Tarbois!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Brown. No joy for Tarbois on that attempt.
Brown dives in and grabs Tarbois's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tarbois pushes down on Brown's head and hops out.
Brown avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Tarbois wants to clinch.
Brown throws a push kick but Tarbois slaps the foot to one side.

Tarbois drives through and clinches with Brown against the cage.
Tarbois tries to pull guard but Brown holds him up against the cage and eventually Tarbois drops back down to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tarbois has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Brown uses from the top position.
Brown wants to control from the top but Tarbois keeps moving.
Brown controls from within his opponent's guard.
Tarbois really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brown. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Tarbois wants to sweep but no luck.
Tarbois has a closed guard, preventing Brown from standing up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Tarbois manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Tarbois keeps the fight on the outside.

Brown rushes Tarbois and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Tarbois wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Tarbois throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Tarbois misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Brown drives through and clinches with Tarbois against the cage.

Tarbois pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Tarbois doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Brown counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Raymond Brown has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kris Tarbois.
Tarbois shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Brown counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Kris Tarbois seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tarbois shoots and misses

and Brown counters by clinching up.
Tarbois looks gassed!
Brown fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Brown avoiding damage as Tarbois throws knees to the body.
Tarbois trying to stall but Brown improves his position.

Brown jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Tarbois walks away with a smile on his face. Brown gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Brown fails with a takedown attempt.
Tarbois looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Brown gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Tarbois working aggressively here.
Brown is trying to break the clinch but Tarbois has him pressed against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tarbois tries to pull guard but Brown holds him up against the cage and eventually Tarbois drops back down to his feet.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Brown shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Brown stops Tarbois from getting back to his feet.
Tarbois trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Brown manages to pass to mount!

Brown has control of Tarbois's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Tarbois regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Tarbois tries to lock up and control but Brown gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Brown gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Tarbois tries a head kick but it misses.
Tarbois throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tarbois wants to clinch up but Brown keeps it at a distance.

Brown clinches up with Tarbois and pushes him back against the cage.
Tarbois tries to pull guard but Brown holds him up against the cage and eventually Tarbois drops back down to his feet.

Tarbois gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Tarbois is breathing heavily.
Brown is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Tarbois would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brown pulls Tarbois in close to prevent any damage.
Tarbois looking to sit in guard and control but Brown gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Tarbois can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Brown controls the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Brown throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Tarbois looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Brown passes into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raymond Brown dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Tarbois closes the distance but Brown moves to the side

and Brown counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Tarbois looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brown is one step ahead there.

Tarbois is working an open guard so Brown takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Tarbois misses with a two punch combination.

Brown darts in and clinches Tarbois up against the cage.
Tarbois looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Tarbois breaks the clinch.

Tarbois shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Tarbois takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Brown wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Tarbois.
Tarbois putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Brown wants to hold on but Tarbois pushes him away.
Tarbois throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tarbois tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Brown tries to buck Tarbois off but he can't manage it.
Tarbois looking to control but Brown is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Brown is trying desperately to improve position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tarbois looking to ground and pound but Brown is blocking nicely.
Tarbois scores with a couple of good head shots there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tarbois tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Tarbois breaks from Brown's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Tarbois can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Brown is looking to escape.
A nice elbow there by Tarbois.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tarbois is trying to control here but Brown has managed to regain half guard.
Kris Tarbois has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Brown keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Tarbois is working for a submission of some sort.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Raymond Brown.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Brown, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
