PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kiazer Soze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Soze has chosen Holy Tears as his entrance music. James Wong had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 186.5lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, James Wong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Kiazer Soze!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, William Gold and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soze bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Wong walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Soze checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Danga de danga de dang - Wong scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Kiazer Soze has been cut.
Wong misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Soze.
A slow jab from Wong misses its intended target.
Wong throws a hook to the side of Soze's head but Soze sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Wong needs to keep his hands up - Soze had a free shot at his head there.
Wong blocks a head kick by Soze.
Soze uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Wong.
Soze takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
James Wong is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Soze tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wong sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Soze somewhat.
Wong throws a big shot that misses.
Soze takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Soze throws a looping overhand right but Wong ducks down to avoid it.
Horrible takedown by Soze or perhaps it was just good defense by Wong which made him look bad.
Soze misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
James Wong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kiazer Soze.

Wong misses with a low kick.
Soze shoots in for a double leg but Wong sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Soze shoots in but no luck this time.
Wong throws a low kick but Soze avoids it.
Soze takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wong lands a nice shot to the body.
James Wong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A big left from Wong misses.
Wong shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Soze tries to close the distance and clinch but Wong swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wong throws a body punch but Soze moves out of range.
Wong avoids a kick to the body.
The fighters circling - Soze throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Soze throws a shot from downtown. Wong moves away and avoids it.
Soze throws a left and a right that both miss
and Wong counters with a stiff right hand.


That has opened up Kiazer Soze's cut even more.
Soze throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Wong swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Soze swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nice uppercut there from Wong.
Soze swings and misses with a shot to the body
enabling Wong to counter with a crisp jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Wong dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Kiazer Soze's cut.
That's time! Wong's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Wong misses with a straight left.
Wong looks to land a right hand but Soze moved out of range.
Wong swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Soze cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Soze clinches up against the cage.
Soze tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Wong is trying to force a seperation but Soze has the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Soze jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Wong walks away with a smile on his face. Soze gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Soze will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
James Wong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kiazer Soze.
No joy there for Soze, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Soze shoots in for a double leg but Wong sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Wong misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Wong stuffs the takedown.
James Wong is winning the standup battle so far.
Wong fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Soze checks it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Soze misses with a takedown attempt - Wong sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Wong lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Soze at a distance.
Soze is breathing heavily.
Wong scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Wong throws a series of strikes that have Soze backpedaling.


The cut above Kiazer Soze's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Soze tries to clinch but Wong moves out of range.
Soze uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Wong.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Wong.
Wong throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Wong takes a swing at Soze's ribcage but misses.
Soze throws a looping overhand right but Wong ducks down to avoid it.
Wong misses with a straight right.
Wong throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Soze counters with a takedown into side control.

Soze goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Wong rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Soze's guard! Nice work there by Wong!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Soze tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Wong looking to sit in guard and control but Soze gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Soze looking to pass the guard.

Soze drops back looking for a leg! Wong is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wong manages to kick Soze off! Soze jumps back into Wong's guard.
Soze wants to pass the guard but Wong is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Wong dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Kiazer Soze's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Wong misses with an uppercut. Soze saw that one coming.
Soze keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Wong looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Soze with a poor takedown
and Wong makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Soze checks a leg kick.
Wong comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Soze shoots in and bounces Wong off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Soze pushing down on Wong's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Soze wants to free his trapped foot but Wong is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Soze looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Soze not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Soze thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Wong to regain full guard.
Soze slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Soze tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Sloppy strikes there by Soze.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Soze looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Wong is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Kiazer Soze has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wong slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Wong has his foot on Soze's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Soze works his way back into a safe position though.
Soze passes easily into side control. Nice work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Soze tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Soze has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Soze creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Wong sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Soze working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Wong is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Kiazer Soze.
I think Wong has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
