Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Jacobs!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jacobs gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Thomas to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Thomas stopping the sweep attempt from Jacobs.

Thomas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Thomas pushing down on Jacobs's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Jacobs has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Thomas is working away from the top position though.

Thomas is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jacobs blocking the ground and pound attempt from Thomas.

Thomas seems to be working for a kimura but Jacobs defends the submission attempt.
Jacobs slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Jacobs looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Jacobs working for a triangle but Thomas defends it easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jacobs is on top in guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Thomas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jacobs gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jacobs trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Jacobs avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Jacobs has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Thomas looks gassed!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jacobs trying to control but Thomas is working from the bottom.

Thomas has his foot on Jacobs's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jacobs works his way back into a safe position though.
Jacobs trying to control the position from guard on top but Thomas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jacobs passes Thomas's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Jacobs takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Jacobs is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Jacobs is looking to take a break and control but Thomas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Still in half guard, Jacobs seems content to control.
Thomas is trying to get back to full guard.
Jacobs is trying to control. Thomas wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Jacobs tries to stand but can't do so whilst Thomas controls his leg.
Thomas wants to control but Jacobs is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Jacobs tries to pass the half guard into mount. Thomas knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jacobs connects with a looping right hand.
Thomas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jacobs as he jumps to the side.
Jacobs scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Jacobs lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Thomas at a distance.
Thomas swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Jacobs counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Thomas takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Thomas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jacobs as he jumps to the side.
Jacobs lands with an uppercut that bounces Thomas off the cage and back into rage.
Jacobs lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Jacobs's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Jacobs duly obliges.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jacobs scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


Thomas is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jacobs connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Thomas's hands.
Thomas is still on wobbly legs! Can Jacobs finish him?
