PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ben Aspinall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rickson Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ben Aspinall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rickson Gracie!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Richard Clark and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aspinall is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gracie.
Aspinall misses with a looping right.
Aspinall throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Aspinall lands a nice looking kick to the body. Gracie takes a step back to recover.
Gracie throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Aspinall's waist but Aspinall gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gracie off to one side.
Ben Aspinall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie shoots in for a double leg but Aspinall sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Gracie fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Aspinall avoids it really well and circles away.
Ben Aspinall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rickson Gracie.

Aspinall looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Aspinall really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gracie closes this distance looking for a takedown but Aspinall circles away.
Aspinall misses with a hook.
Aspinall throws a body kick that misses.
Gracie will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gracie blocks a jab.
Aspinall goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Rickson Gracie has been cut.
Aspinall throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Aspinall throws a right and a left that Gracie avoids nicely.
Gracie dodges the punch combination from Aspinall.
Aspinall waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Gracie.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Aspinall looks to land a combination but Gracie avoids it well.
Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown. Aspinall tries to sprawl out of it but Gracie keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Aspinall manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Aspinall throws a right hand that Gracie ducks under and follows up with a left that Gracie also avoids with ease.
Aspinall throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Aspinall fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Aspinall scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Aspinall scores with a sloppy right hand. Gracie should have avoided that one.
A solid body kick from Aspinall.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Aspinall throws a head kick but Gracie moves out of range.
A combination from Aspinall does no damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Rickson Gracie's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Aspinall tries a head kick but it misses.
Gracie shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Aspinall pinned against the cage. Aspinall gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Aspinall fails to land with a series of punches.
Ben Aspinall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aspinall throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Gracie on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Aspinall as he avoids it easily.
Aspinall thows a body shot but no joy.
Aspinall looks to land a combination but Gracie avoids it well.
Aspinall misses with a two punch combination.
Aspinall throws a half hearted mid kick.
Aspinall is looking to land body kicks.
Ben Aspinall is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Aspinall throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Aspinall!
Aspinall throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gracie.
Aspinall scores with a kick to the body.
Aspinall throws a series of punches but Gracie avoids them all with ease.

Gracie shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Gracie slows the pace down in half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Aspinall is trying to stand back up but Gracie is controlling him

Gracie is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Aspinall is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
