PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Arturo Caldeira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Vorhees (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vorhees has chosen Carnifex - In Coalesce With Filth And Faith as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Arturo Caldeira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jason Vorhees!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Anthony Taglia and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caldeira fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Vorhees leaves Caldeira with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Vorhees has Caldeira up against the cage in a clinch.
Vorhees is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Vorhees tries for a takedown. No joy.
Vorhees drops down looking for an ankle pick but Caldeira pulls his leg out and moves away.
Arturo Caldeira has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Vorhees.

and Vorhees counters with a single leg into guard. Caldeira didn't expect that.
Caldeira has Vorhees pulled in close to control his posture.
Caldeira will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Vorhees stays in close to Caldeira's body and controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vorhees trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Vorhees wants to control from the top but Caldeira keeps moving.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Caldeira controls Vorhees momentarily but Vorhees frees himself.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Vorhees counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Vorhees.

Vorhees is looking for a triangle but Caldeira pushes his legs off easily.

Vorhees looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Caldeira has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Vorhees is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Caldeira stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vorhees swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Vorhees throws his legs up looking for a submission but Caldeira uses it to pass to side control.
Caldeira remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Vorhees tries to bench press Caldeira off him but Caldeira keeps the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Vorhees dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Vorhees tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Caldeira counters with a takedown into side control.

Vorhees is not content to let Caldeira control the position.
Caldeira takes a little break here. Vorhees wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Vorhees isn't going anywhere.

Vorhees throws Caldeira to one side and escapes!
Vorhees looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Vorhees counters by moving into the clinch.

Vorhees looking to throw knees to the head but Caldeira is blocking nicely.
Caldeira jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Vorhees walks away with a smile on his face. Caldeira gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Caldeira moves into the clinch.

Caldeira has Vorhees pressed against the cage, preventing Vorhees from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
A frustrated look appears on Vorhees's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Caldeira stops a takedown attempt from Vorhees.
Caldeira's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Vorhees has Caldeira pushed against the cage.
Caldeira has Vorhees pressed against the cage, preventing Vorhees from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Caldeira managing to block the knees to the body from Vorhees.

Caldeira tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arturo Caldeira. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Caldeira gets control of Vorhees's arms and successfully pulls guard. Caldeira will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Caldeira wants to control the position but Vorhees says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Caldeira is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Caldeira doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Vorhees decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Caldeira's guard.
Vorhees slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Caldeira pulls Vorhees in close to prevent any damage.

Jason Vorhees comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Vorhees has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
