PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Puder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Biggus Richardus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daniel Puder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Biggus Richardus!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Anthony Taglia and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Puder throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Richardus's waist but Richardus gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Puder off to one side.

Richardus gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Richardus has a closed guard, preventing Puder from standing up.
Puder being controlled here momentarily.

Richardus kicks Puder off and gets to his feet.
Richardus shoots in looking for a takedown. Puder tries to sprawl out of it but Richardus keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Puder manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Richardus lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


It looks like Daniel Puder has been cut.
Richardus tries to land a leg kick but Puder saw it coming and moves away.
Richardus pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Puder tries to land a front kick but Richardus steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Puder has closed the distance and engaged Richardus in a clinch.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Richardus wants to break the clinch but can't.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Richardus keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Puder's efforts to push away.
Puder jumps guard but Richardus stands there with Puder around his waist. Puder gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Puder looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Puder. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Puder tries to pull guard but Richardus holds him up against the cage and eventually Puder drops back down to his feet.

Richardus has picked Puder up - he's going for a ride! Richardus dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Richardus is looking to advance position but Puder won't allow it.

Puder wants to get back to full guard.
Still in half guard, Richardus seems content to control.
Puder is looking to control Richardus's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Puder avoid being mounted?
Richardus is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Puder has his hands clasped together around Richardus's back. He's all about the action.
Puder tries to roll over but Richardus keeps him under control.
Puder is breathing heavily.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Richardus throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Puder.
Puder fails in his attempt to clinch.
Puder showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Richardus.
Puder shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Richardus as he jumps to the side.

Puder closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Puder lands in his opponent's guard.

Richardus is looking for a triangle but Puder pushes his legs off easily.
Puder looking to sit in guard and control but Richardus gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Richardus wants to pass the guard but Puder is keeping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Richardus decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Puder, up you get!
Richardus tries to land a body kick

and Puder counters by moving into the clinch.

Puder escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Richardus scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Biggus Richardus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Puder clinches up against the cage.
Richardus is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Puder gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Richardus changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Puder fights it off and pushes away nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Puder gets the takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Biggus Richardus will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Richardus has his takedown stuffed

and Puder counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Puder decides to return to a standing position.
No joy there for Richardus, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Puder shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Richardus napping and manages to drive through into side control!
You can see the frustration on Richardus's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Richardus bucks up and tries to throw Puder off but instead Puder has got his back!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Even with his hooks in, Puder manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Puder is not going to allow Richardus to sit and survive in this position.

Puder controls the position.
Puder looking to hold on to the position here but Richardus rolls and ends up regaining guard.
Richardus is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Puder throwing strikes but missing.
Richardus bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Puder's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Puder controls Richardus momentarily but Richardus frees himself.

Richardus drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Richardus jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Richardus wants to stand but Puder is controlling his posture from full guard.

Puder throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Richardus wants to control from the top but Puder keeps moving.
Richardus won't allow Puder to sweep him here.
Richardus must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Richardus will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Puder fails with an attempt to clinch.

Puder feints and as Richardus raises his hands in defense, Puder changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Richardus seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Richardus tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Richardus is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Puder is controlling him.
Puder trying to control the position from guard on top but Richardus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Richardus avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Puder has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Richardus is proving hard to escape from.
Richardus looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Richardus slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richardus clinches but Puder breaks the clinch

and Puder counters by clinching up.
Puder throws a punch but it's blocked by Richardus.

Puder jumps guard and drags Richardus to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Puder pulls Richardus in close to prevent any damage.
Richardus has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Puder is proving hard to escape from.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Richardus gets to his feet - Puder follows without any prompting.

Puder scores a takedown into full mount!
Puder sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Puder looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Richardus is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Richardus wants to hold on but Puder pushes him away.
Puder can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Richardus is looking to escape.
Richardus wants to control but Puder is having none of it.
Puder controlling his opponent.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Puder seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Richardus for as long as he can get away with.
Richardus regains half guard.
Puder wants to control but Richardus is keeping him busy.

Puder decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Richardus is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The fight stays on the outside here - Puder looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Puder closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Daniel Puder overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Richardus is looking to escape.
