Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Diego Rios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Roberts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rios comes to the cage accompanied by The Way I Am. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Diego Rios!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Roberts!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roberts tries to clinch but Rios moves out of range.
Rios throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Roberts tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rios swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Roberts tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rios sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Roberts somewhat.

Rios clinches with his opponent.

Rios pulls guard successfully.
Rios lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
Rios wants to stand but Roberts is controlling the position.

Roberts avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Rios striking from the bottom.
Rios has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Roberts postures up.

Rios wants to sweep but no luck.
Roberts looks gassed!

Rios has control of Roberts's left arm, preventing Roberts from doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Roberts tries to keep at a distance but Rios has taken the fight into the clinch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Roberts pulls guard successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roberts trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Rios pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Roberts is keeping the position for now.
Rios trying to control but Roberts is working from the bottom.

Roberts looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Roberts holds on and takes a little breather.
Rios stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Roberts swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Roberts not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Roberts can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rios controls the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Rios shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Rios trying to control from half guard but Roberts is working away.
Rios perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Roberts is looking to improve his position.
Roberts is not content to let Rios control the position.

Rios stands up and beckons Roberts to join him on the feet.
Rios keeps the fight on the outside.
Rios fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Roberts shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Roberts showed some decent athleticism there.
Rios is trying to stand.
Roberts passes to full mount!
Roberts scoring with strikes but Rios is staying in there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diego Rios dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Roberts shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rios's guard.
Roberts is fighting to break Rios's control of his arms but Rios is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Rios is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rios striking off his back but it's not causing Roberts any problems.

Roberts postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rios is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Roberts, into his guard.
Rios won't allow Roberts to sweep him here.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rios works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Rios stands up and beckons Roberts to join him on the feet.
Rios avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Roberts moves out of range as Rios throws a body kick.

Roberts content just to control the position here.
Rios really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Rios throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

Roberts looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Roberts takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Rios is working to get back to half guard.
Rios sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Rios slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Rios is working an open guard so Roberts takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Roberts tries a head kick but it misses.
Roberts doesn't manage to clinch there - Rios circles away.
Roberts takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Rios tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Roberts scoring with punches to the head and body.
Roberts wants to control from the top but Rios keeps moving.
Roberts looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Rios throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Rios controls Roberts momentarily but Roberts frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Roberts showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


A combination from Roberts does no damage.

Rios shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Roberts is trying to defend but Rios finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Rios slows the pace down in half guard.
Rios is thwarting Roberts's attempts to control the position.
Rios moves nicely into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rios scores with a couple of short elbows.

Roberts wants to control but Rios postures up.
Roberts might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rios kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Roberts is not content to let Rios control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roberts is looking to reverse the position.
Rios looks up at the clock and then as Roberts takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Rios smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Roberts gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Roberts is looking to improve his position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Rios scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Roberts is looking to regain half guard here but Rios keeps moving and retains side control.

Rios is trying to get an arm triangle but Roberts is defending well.
Roberts wants to control but Rios postures up.
Roberts is looking to reverse the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rios wants to lay and pray for a moment but Roberts keeps working.
You can see the frustration on Roberts's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Roberts tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Rios counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Rios shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rios looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Roberts slaps away a takedown attempt from Rios, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Rios lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Roberts!
Rios prevents Roberts from getting the reversal.

Rios has control of Roberts's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Roberts regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Rios can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Roberts is looking to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Diego Rios showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Rios has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
