The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Basciano tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cruz swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cruz scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Cruz throws a nice head kick!
Basciano is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Poor strikes thrown by Basciano there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Cruz's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Basciano misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Basciano throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Cruz because Basciano loaded up on that one.
Cruz holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Basciano tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Basciano with shots to the head and body - Cruz looks very uncomfortable down there.

Basciano jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Cruz manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Basciano really is a fat lump.
Basciano tries to score with some ground and pound. Cruz controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Basciano is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Cruz looks calm but he's in trouble here. Basciano gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Cruz is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Basciano lets go of the hold and Cruz can pop his arm back in it's socket.
