The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mello gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Gurgel is stalling in the full guard.
Mello throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Gurgel would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Mello is looking to stand back up but Gurgel counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Mello.
Mello wants to improve his position but Gurgel is controlling well.
Gurgel not doing much here.

Gurgel is working for a submission of some sort.
Mello has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gurgel is working away from the top position though.

Mello gets back to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mello tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gurgel wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Gurgel stands up.
Gurgel fails to land with a series of punches.
Horrible takedown by Gurgel or perhaps it was just good defense by Mello which made him look bad.

Mello is trying to control. Gurgel wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Mello working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Gurgel's head.

Gurgel has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mello can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mello is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Gurgel prevents Mello from getting back to his feet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mello is on top in guard.

Mello is looking for a kimura but Gurgel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mello to get the leverage.
Mello throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Gurgel is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Mello pulls his head out easily.

Mello seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Gurgel is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
