PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eric Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Proffitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eric Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Proffitt!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Gracie darts in trying to clinch
and Proffitt counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Gracie with a poor takedown

and Proffitt moves into the clinch.

Gracie breaks the clinch.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Gracie lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Proffitt has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Proffitt and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

and Proffitt counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Gracie looking for a sweep. Not yet Gracie, not yet.
Gracie throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Proffitt preventing the sweep.
Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gracie looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Proffitt puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Well, if Proffitt is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Proffitt decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
A head kick by Gracie misses

and Proffitt counters with a single leg into guard. Gracie didn't expect that.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Proffitt not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Proffitt passes Gracie's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Proffitt tries to stand and escape but Gracie is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Still in half guard, Proffitt seems content to control.
Gracie trying to control but Proffitt postures up.
Proffitt throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gracie.

Proffitt stands and steps away. Gracie gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Proffitt throws out a loose jab but Gracie uses good head movement to avoid it.
Gracie clinches but Proffitt breaks the clinch

and Proffitt counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Gracie!

Gracie is squirming around, avoiding Proffitt's attempts to control the action.
Proffitt looks gassed!
Proffitt lands a big elbow.
Proffitt manages to capitalize on a mistake by Gracie to take his back!
Gracie holding both Proffitt 's hands and preventing any damage.
Gracie wants to escape the position.
Proffitt gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Gracie is trying to break free.

Gracie defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Proffitt's arms.

Gracie is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Proffitt gets his way!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Gracie prevents Proffitt from getting a body triangle.
Proffitt is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Gracie is trapped and Proffitt is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Proffitt just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Oooh a big shot gets through from Proffitt. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Gracie tries to escape but Proffitt has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Proffitt dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Proffitt fails to land with a series of punches.
Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Proffitt counters with a left to the body.
Gracie throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Gracie tries to clinch up.
Gracie looks to clinch
and Proffitt counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Gracie wants to clinch but Proffitt slips to the side

and Proffitt counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Proffitt gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Proffitt misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Eric Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Proffitt does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Proffitt lands a slapping body shot.
Proffitt tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A solid body kick from Proffitt.
Gracie misses with a takedown attempt

and Proffitt counters with a single leg into guard. Gracie didn't expect that.
Proffitt passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Gracie gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Gracie wants to get back to full guard.
Gracie gets full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gracie is on top in guard.
Proffitt preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Gracie makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gracie pushes down on Proffitt's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Proffitt does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Gracie is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Proffitt manages to get to full guard.
Gracie prevents Proffitt from getting back to his feet.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Proffitt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Proffitt looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Proffitt lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Gracie!
Proffitt wants to control the pace but Gracie is squirming around nicely.

Jason Proffitt has got the better of the ground game so far.

Gracie is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Proffitt scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Gracie?
Gracie keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Gracie tries to lock up and control but Proffitt gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Proffitt controlling the pace for now.

Proffitt stands up from mount. Strange move.
Proffitt waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Gracie.

Proffitt shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Gracie misses with a double jab
and Proffitt counters with a body kick.
Gracie with a lazy takedown attempt

and Proffitt counters by moving into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Proffitt has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Gracie clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Gracie manages to reverse the position and now he's in Proffitt's guard. Nice work there by Gracie.

Gracie stands up and waves to Proffitt to follow him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Proffitt works his foot free and advances to mount.
Gracie bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Proffitt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Proffitt manages to capitalize on a mistake by Gracie to take his back!
Proffitt controls the action.
Proffitt connects with a big shot to the side of Gracie's head.
Proffitt has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Gracie tries to escape the position.
Proffitt wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.

Proffitt has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Gracie! Can he survive? No! He's out! Proffitt gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
