Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Rapheal (ranked 377 p4p, 329 weight class) and Kawainui Perry (ranked 55 p4p, 48 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kawainui Perry was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mark Rapheal! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 15 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kawainui Perry! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and George Francis.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Perry pushes Rapheal away with a front kick. Good leg kick by Perry. Perry ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Rapheal takes a kick to the body and keeps moving. A thudding body kick lands there by Perry!
Perry throws a hook to the side of Rapheal's head but Rapheal sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Rapheal jabbing away but nothing is landing. Perry lands a nice looking body kick. We've been told by Rapheal's head coaches at FIGHT FOUNDERS (CA) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Perry is looking to land body kicks. It appears Rapheal was looking to counter with a kick there. Perry connects with a solid leg kick. Perry throws a wild body kick that Rapheal sees coming a mile off. Rapheal throws a counter high kick but Perry was just alert enough to avoid it. Perry throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. It looked like Rapheal wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Perry throws a chopping leg kick but Rapheal manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Rapheal takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Perry lands a jab to the nose. Perry thuds his shin into the meat of Rapheal's side. Perry throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rapheal was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Rapheal blocks a jab. Perry lands with a right hand. Perry fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Rapheal. Perry misses with an uppercut
and Rapheal counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Rapheal checks a low kick from Perry. A big right from Perry misses. Perry misses with a leg kick. Rapheal appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick. Rapheal takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A low kick lands for Perry.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Perry scores with a spinning back kick! Perry with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Perry throws a leg kick which misses Rapheal's front leg but catches the back leg as Rapheal tries to avoid it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. A nice inside leg kick there by Perry. That's going to slow Rapheal down. Perry throws a low kick, looking for Rapheal's leg but Rapheal calmly moves out of range. A chopping leg kick lands by Perry. Rapheal needs to keep his hands up - Perry had a free shot at his head there. Perry fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Perry tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Perry looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

and Rapheal counters with a nice kick to the body. The fighters circling - Perry throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Rapheal keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Perry moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Perry misses the body punch and Rapheal makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Perry really felt that one! That kick from Perry tenderised Rapheal's leg. Rapheal is trying to keep his angry face on. Rapheal is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. Perry swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rapheal throws a quick counter kick to the body but Perry avoids it. Perry looks to land a right hand but Rapheal moved out of range. A solid leg kick lands there for Perry.

Rapheal is looking to counter punch. Perry throws a hook but Rapheal avoids it easily. It looked like Rapheal was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Perry. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nice shot by Perry. Perry throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Perry throws a nice outside leg kick. Nice jab there from Perry. Rapheal slips under a jab from Perry. Rapheal on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. And that is the end of the round. Rapheal has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Perry. Perry connects with a leg kick. Perry pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Rapheal gets cracked there but stands up to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Perry throws a body kick that misses. Rapheal swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Perry tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Rapheal is able to avoid easily. And Rapheal counters with a quick kick to the body but Perry blocks it. Perry tries to score with a low kick but Rapheal moves his leg out of the way. Perry has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Perry misses with a body punch
and Rapheal counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Perry thinking.

Kawainui Perry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Perry throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Perry looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Rapheal throwing a counter right hand but Perry manages to avoid it. Perry feints and then cracks Rapheal's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Rapheal down. Perry dips to his left and cracks Rapheal with an uppercut! Perry lands a leg kick that knocks Rapheal off balance momentarily. Rapheal takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
That kick from Perry tenderised Rapheal's leg. Rapheal is trying to keep his angry face on. Perry lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Perry scores with the left hand. Rapheal knows he should have avoided that one. Perry takes a swing at Rapheal's ribcage but misses. Perry misses with a straight left. Rapheal takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Perry looks to land a left hand but Rapheal moved out of range nicely. A little feinted left hand from Rapheal on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. A nice inside leg kick there by Perry. That's going to slow Rapheal down. Perry misses with a low kick. Perry loads up on a big right hand but Rapheal slips the punch. Rapheal jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit. Perry throws a body punch but Rapheal moves out of range. Rapheal is looking to counter punch. Rapheal takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

 It looks like Kawainui Perry has been cut. Perry swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Rapheal will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body. Perry fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Perry throws a body kick despite being completely out of range and Rapheal counters with a lovely straight right hand! Perry finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
It appears Rapheal was looking to counter with a kick there. Perry misses with a hook. Rapheal ducked under it nicely. Rapheal throws a quick counter kick to the body but Perry avoids it. This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Rapheal might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far. Perry keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Kawainui Perry showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Kawainui Perry's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Perry throws a body shot but no joy. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Perry, as that shot connected.

 That's four minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Perry chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Rapheal bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Rapheal jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit. Rapheal walks into a stiff left hand from Perry. A jab from Perry misses. And Rapheal counters with a quick kick to the body but Perry blocks it. Perry lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Nice straight punches there by Perry. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Perry. Rapheal checks a leg kick. Rapheal slips under a jab from Perry. Perry connects with a body shot that sends Rapheal's belly button to the back. Rapheal chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Perry can pounce on him.
Kawainui Perry is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Rapheal looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Perry throws a low kick but it's checked well by Rapheal. A little feinted left hand from Rapheal on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
And that's the end of the fight! Kawainui Perry comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Perry has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
