PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Little Druida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Sparks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jimmy Sparks told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Little Druida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmy Sparks!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Druida changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sparks looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Sparks tries to buck Druida off but Druida is having none of it.
Sparks parries the strikes from Druida easily there. Druida is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Sparks to escape.

Druida is trying to get an arm triangle but Sparks is defending well.

Druida is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sparks is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Sparks prevents Druida from moving into mount.

Sparks wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Druida shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sparks defends it nicely.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Druida shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sparks sprawls well. Sparks wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Druida gets slowly back to his feet.

Druida misses with a takedown attempt - Sparks sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Druida fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sparks sprawls well initially but Druida persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Sparks wants to stand and escape but Druida is having none of it.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sparks holds on and takes a little breather.

Some bone on bone action there as Druida checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Druida fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sparks avoids it really well and circles away.
Sparks throws out a powerful jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Little Druida dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Sparks throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Druida connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sparks moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Druida shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Druida showed some decent athleticism there.
Sparks is positioning himself well to prevent Druida advancing to mount.
Druida is stalling here. Sparks is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Druida seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Sparks has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Sparks is staying tight to Druida's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Druida wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sparks has him pressed against the cage.
Druida has Sparks pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sparks manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Druida is looking for a kimura but Sparks is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Druida to get the leverage.
Little Druida overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Druida is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sparks is just riding it out for now. Druida eventually gives up the hold.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sparks can do anything to dispel that myth.

Druida is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Sparks can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Druida won't let Sparks get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sparks bucks Druida off and manages to get back to his feet!

Druida shoots for a takedown but Sparks saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Druida tries to pull guard but Sparks holds him up against the cage and eventually Druida drops back down to his feet.
