Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thaddeus Meza!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Glass and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Meza shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Meza was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Riley is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Riley dodges the ground and pound from Meza.
Meza throwing shots but missing, from side control.

Meza stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Meza wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Meza keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Riley misses with the combination.

Riley misses with a two punch combination.
Meza fails in his attempt to clinch.
Meza closes this distance looking for a takedown but Riley circles away.

Meza shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Meza was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Riley throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Riley throws a sloppy head kick

and Meza counters by clinching up.

Meza has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Riley is trying to keep an underhook but Meza manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Riley is staying active underneath Meza, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Riley holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Meza perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Meza has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Riley trying to hold on to Meza's head to control him but Meza postures up.
Meza thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Riley won't allow Meza to pass to mount.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Meza keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Meza trying to control from half guard but Riley is working away.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Riley shoots in but no luck this time.

Meza decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Meza with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Meza thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Riley's head.
Riley tries to roll over but Meza keeps him under control.
Meza passes to side control.

Meza stands up.
Riley shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Meza as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Riley. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Meza shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Meza showed some decent athleticism there.
My spies in War Hound MMA inform me that Meza has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Riley is not content to let Meza control the position.

Meza passes the guard and advances to mount!

Meza with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Riley is controlling an arm, preventing Meza from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Thaddeus Meza dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Meza shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Riley defends it nicely.
Riley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Meza's waist but Meza gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Riley off to one side.
Meza feints the counter takedown.
Nice sprawl there from Riley as Meza shoots in.
Riley tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Meza manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Riley closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Meza did well to prevent Riley getting side control.
Meza is trying to get back to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Meza can do anything to dispel that myth.
Riley perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The fighters are battling for position here. Meza manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Meza thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Meza keeping moving, preventing Riley from controlling successfully.
Riley is looking to stand up but Meza won't let him.

Meza looking for a triangle here. Riley is fighting it but it looks tight! Meza pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Riley is tapping out - this one is all over!
