CFC Rio 3 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 41 wins and 27 losses; Francisco Ngannou! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 43 wins and 57 losses; Dragon Li Chai! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Thiago Cunha and Emerson Jorge.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Ngannou stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ngannou wants it to stay on the feet. Horrible takedown attempt by Chai or perhaps it was just good defense by Ngannou, which made it look bad.
Chai feints and as Ngannou raises his hands in defense, Chai changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Ngannou (0) vs (2) Chai Ngannou working a defensive guard but Chai passes into half guard.
Ngannou is looking for a sweep. Chai is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Chai wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ngannou keeps working.

 That's two minutes gone in the round. Chai tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ngannou knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Ngannou is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Freddy\'s Grappling Institute, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

 That's three minutes gone in the round. Chai wants to free his trapped foot but Ngannou is holding on for dear life with his legs. Ngannou preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Ngannou wants to control but Chai is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The fighters are battling for position here. Ngannou manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Ngannou can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Chai controls the pace. Chai stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ngannou swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Chai wants to control from the top but Ngannou keeps moving.
And that's the end of the fight! Chai wins on points by 5 to 0. After winning the bout, Dragon Li Chai thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. |
