PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kulata Bitok (ranked 23472 p4p, 23513 weight class) and Yawa Kiang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 52 - 87 - 10, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kulata Bitok!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 49 - 94 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Kiang doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Bitok counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

Kiang closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Bitok quickly recovers to half guard.
Still in half guard, Kiang seems content to control.
Bitok is controlling Kiang's trapped leg to prevent Kiang from advancing to side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Bitok trying to control but Kiang postures up.

Bitok controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Kiang stalling.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Bitok shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kiang sprawls well. Kiang wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bitok gets slowly back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bitok throws a head kick but Kiang moves out of range.
Kiang has a takedown stuffed.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Kiang gets a takedown into half guard.
Kiang stalling.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bitok keeping hold of Kiang's head, controlling as best he can.
Still in half guard, Kiang seems content to control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bitok wants to control but Kiang is keeping busy.
Bitok is trying to control but Kiang manages to pass to mount!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yawa Kiang dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kiang decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bitok is pressing down on Kiang's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Yawa Kiang has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bitok trying to control the position here.
Kiang stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bitok swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang trying to control but Bitok is working from the bottom.
Bitok managing to control the position.

Bitok is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kiang is aware though and is defending well.
Bitok wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bitok is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bitok avoids the body shot from Kiang.
Bitok with a poor takedown

and Kiang decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bitok's guard.
Kiang stays in close to Bitok's body and controls the position.
Bitok pulls Kiang in close to prevent any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bitok's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Bitok continues to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bitok wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Kiang is now in half guard.
Kiang not doing much here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yawa Kiang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Kiang tries to sprawl but Bitok drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Kiang is trying is best to control the position here.
Bitok trying to control from half guard but Kiang is working away.
Bitok slows the pace down in half guard.

Kiang wants to control but Bitok is keeping busy.

Bitok perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kiang is looking to improve his position.
Bitok takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kiang looks for a takedown but Bitok sprawls well.
Bitok stuffs the takedown attempt from Kiang. Kiang gets slowly back to his feet.
Bitok tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kiang swivels and escapes.
Kiang counters with a body kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bitok changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kiang looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kiang is looking for a sweep.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kiang struggling a bit here.
Kiang dodges the ground and pound from Bitok.
A lull in the action here.
Kiang struggling a bit here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bitok happy to just control the position for now.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kulata Bitok has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Yawa Kiang is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Bitok looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Kiang is avoiding damage well.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kulata Bitok showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kiang has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
