PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kulata Bitok (ranked 23415 p4p, 23456 weight class) and Yawa Kiang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kulata Bitok has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 50 - 87 - 10, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kulata Bitok!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 49 - 92 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Kiang darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Kiang is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Kiang seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kiang wants to take a breather but Bitok is having none of it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bitok is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Kiang takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang throwing shots but Bitok is blocking nicely.
Kiang working over Bitok with some ground and pound. Bitok looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kiang avoids the body shot from Bitok.
Kiang counters with a body kick.
Kiang shoots for a double leg takedown but Bitok sprawls well. He's pushed Kiang's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Bitok looking to score a takedown here. Kiang is defending well but Bitok drives through and ends up in Kiang's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bitok's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Kiang not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bitok slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kiang or perhaps it was just good defense by Bitok, which made it look bad.
Bitok throws a big counter combination but Kiang scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Bitok closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kiang did well to prevent Bitok getting side control.
Well, if Bitok is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight� I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza� Yum. Can't wait.
Kiang is positioning himself well to prevent Bitok advancing to mount.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kulata Bitok dominated that round.
That's time! Bitok's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Nice takedown defense from Bitok. No joy for Kiang on that attempt.
Bitok thinks about countering with a body kick.

Bitok throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kiang was covering up waiting for the punch and Bitok finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Kiang avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang seems keen to control Bitok's posture.
Bitok wants to control from the top but Kiang keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kiang utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bitok content to stall in guard here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Bitok goes for a double leg but Kiang avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kiang continues to drive forward.
Kiang steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Kiang pulls guard successfully.
Kiang has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Bitok postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang has Bitok pulled in close to control his posture.
Bitok not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Kulata Bitok overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kiang holds on and takes a little breather.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bitok shoots for a takedown but Kiang saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Kiang is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Bitok shoots in for a takedown but Kiang shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kulata Bitok. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bitok darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kiang controlling the position for now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kulata Bitok dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Kiang fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bitok sprawls well initially but Kiang persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Bitok tries to get to full guard but Kiang has control of the leg.
Kiang perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bitok trying to hold on to Kiang's head to control him but Kiang postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ground and pound from Kiang.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Kiang throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kiang dives in for a single leg takedown but Bitok sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Bitok thinks about countering with a body kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kiang misses with a takedown attempt - Bitok sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bitok is looking to counter with a body kick.
Bitok will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kiang thinks about the counter body kick.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kiang.
Bitok tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kiang defends well and Bitok ends up having to push Kiang into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Kiang follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bitok has Kiang pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kiang manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kulata Bitok. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bitok jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kiang walks away with a smile on his face. Bitok gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Kiang counters with a left and a right that stings Bitok.

Kiang shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bitok is trying to defend but Kiang finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kiang in particular looking to stall.
Yawa Kiang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kulata Bitok is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Let's hope that Kiang has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yawa Kiang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bitok has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
