Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ippo Makunouchi (ranked 748 p4p, 367 weight class) and Cibuka Stilera (ranked 94 p4p, 50 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ippo Makunouchi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cibuka Stilera!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stilera tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Makunouchi rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Stilera counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Stilera misses with a looping left.
Stilera's jab looks to have found its range, popping Makunouchi under the eye.

It looks like Ippo Makunouchi has been cut.
Makunouchi lands the left hand.

It looks like Cibuka Stilera has been cut.
Stilera jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Stilera misses with a wild body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Makunouchi takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Makunouchi's coaches at Sydney Top Team have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

Makunouchi is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Stilera off and has taken his back!
Stilera has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Makunouchi has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Stilera tries to improve his position but instead Makunouchi has taken his back!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Makunouchi just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Stilera manages to reverse the position and now he's in Makunouchi's guard. Nice work there by Stilera.
Stilera wants to pass the guard but Makunouchi is keeping the position.
Stilera throws a big right hand that misses.

Makunouchi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Stilera stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Makunouchi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Stilera throws a strike but Makunouchi rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Stilera looking for a guillotine here but Makunouchi defends easily.

Makunouchi stands and steps away. Stilera gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Makunouchi swings for the body but Stilera moves out of range.
Stilera moves away from the strike by Makunouchi.
Ippo Makunouchi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Stilera tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Stilera scores with a crisp jab that stopped Makunouchi in his tracks.
Stilera looks to score with a jab to the body but Makunouchi is just out of range.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ippo Makunouchi will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Makunouchi misses with a combination

and Stilera counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Makunouchi!
Stilera works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Stilera looks up at the clock and then as Makunouchi takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Stilera smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Stilera in side control, throwing shots but Makunouchi defends.
Cibuka Stilera has got the better of the ground game so far.
Stilera tries to score with some ground and pound. Makunouchi controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Makunouchi gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Stilera is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Makunouchi can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Stilera wants to take his opponent's back but Makunouchi doesn't allow it.

Stilera is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Makunouchi can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Makunouchi bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Stilera working for a triangle but Makunouchi defends it easily.

Stilera isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Makunouchi stacks Stilera on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Makunouchi!
Stilera is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Makunouchi takes a swing at Stilera's ribcage but misses.
Stilera moves away from the strike by Makunouchi.
Makunouchi connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Stilera tries to close the distance and clinch but Makunouchi swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Stilera throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Makunouchi on the side of the head.

Makunouchi uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Stilera.
Makunouchi swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Stilera moves in looking to clinch but Makunouchi pushes him off.
Makunouchi throws a hook to the side of Stilera's head but Stilera sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Makunouchi swings and misses with a hook to the body.

and Makunouchi counters with a stiff right hand.

Stilera moves into range and clinches up with Makunouchi.
Makunouchi avoids the elbow strike from Stilera, against the cage.

Makunouchi lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Stilera circles away quickly and effectively.
Makunouchi looks to score with a jab to the body but Stilera is just out of range.
Stilera slips under a jab from Makunouchi.
Makunouchi digs a good hook to Stilera's body.
Makunouchi's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Makunouchi duly obliges.
Stilera has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Makunouchi feints a jab promting Stilera to slip. Makunouchi then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Stilera slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Nice uppercut there from Makunouchi.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Stilera uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Makunouchi.

Stilera ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

It looked like Makunouchi wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Stilera throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Makunouchi on the side of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Makunouchi lands a big uppercut and Stilera crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Stilera looks OK. Makunouchi waves Stilera back to his feet!

Stilera darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Makunouchi is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Stilera can do to turn this around?

Makunouchi tries to break free but Stilera pushes him back against the cage.
Makunouchi has had enough of the clinch but Stilera keeps him there for the moment.

Stilera swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Makunouchi escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Stilera tries to close the distance and clinch but Makunouchi swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cibuka Stilera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Makunouchi avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Makunouchi is looking to counter punch.
Stilera steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Makunouchi.

A lazy left from Makunouchi finds it's target.
A combination from Makunouchi does no damage.
Sloppy strikes from Makunouchi. Those never looked like landing.
Stilera's coach down at Gym To Nica was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Stilera's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Stilera comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Ippo Makunouchi's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Makunouchi misses with a hook.
Stilera takes a swing at Makunouchi's ribcage but misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ippo Makunouchi.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Makunouchi, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
