Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cristofer Nunes (ranked 3979 p4p, 3982 weight class) and Taka Tanaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cristofer Nunes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Taka Tanaka!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Nunes.
Nunes looks to score with a jab to the body but Tanaka is just out of range.
Nunes throws a nice looking combination but Tanaka bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Tanaka drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Nunes defends it well.
Nunes connects with a leg kick.
Nunes slips under a jab from Tanaka.
Nunes throwing a counter right hand but Tanaka manages to avoid it.
Some wild striking there from Nunes.
Nunes keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

and Tanaka counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Tanaka is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Tanaka landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Nunes is trying to stand up here but Tanaka is controlling him well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tanaka content to control rather than advance.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nunes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tanaka on the ground.
Nunes looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nunes misses with a hook.

Tanaka bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Nunes seems a little lost for a moment, as Tanaka dominates the positioning.

Nunes is trying to get back to his feet.

Tanaka controls the position from side control.
Nunes pushes Tanaka away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Tanaka gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Nunes is trying to escape the position but Tanaka is controlling the position.
Nunes gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Tanaka tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Nunes is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Tanaka controlling the pace for now.
Tanaka looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Tanaka looking to control and managing it successfully.
Tanaka's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Let's hope that Tanaka has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Tanaka pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Tanaka cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Tanaka tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Tanaka looks to score with a jab to the body but Nunes is just out of range.

and Tanaka counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Nunes wants to stand but Tanaka is controlling the position.
Tanaka has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Nunes trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
More stalling from Tanaka.

Tanaka lands a couple of elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tanaka is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Tanaka connects with a couple of short punches.
Tanaka looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Tanaka has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Tanaka drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tanaka jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Tanaka slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Nunes is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Nunes is trying to escape the position but Tanaka is controlling the position.
Tanaka lands a few punches from side control.
Tanaka takes a little break here. Nunes wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Tanaka has hold of Nunes's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Nunes seems comfortable defending it but Tanaka has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Nunes is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Nunes is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Tanaka couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Taka Tanaka!
