Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Reid Erickson (ranked 2149 p4p, 1594 weight class) and John Paul (ranked 233 p4p, 179 weight class). John Paul is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Reid Erickson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 15 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Paul! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Aafke Stam and Patrick Alders.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Erickson misses with a hook
and Paul counters by moving into the clinch. Paul has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Erickson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Erickson cracks Paul with a nice body shot. Erickson blocking some punches.
Erickson has a couple of punches blocked by Paul.
Paul tries to score a body lock takedown but Erickson shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Paul makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Erickson misses with a punch on the inside.
Paul drops down looking for an ankle pick but Erickson pulls his leg out and moves away.
We've been told by Erickson's head coaches at BANZAI COMBAT ACADEMY HELSINKI that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Reid Erickson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Paul. Erickson loads up on a big right hand but Paul slips the punch. Paul throws the left hand but Erickson avoids the punch easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Erickson misses with a straight left. Erickson misses with a left hand and Paul counters with a lovely straight right hand! Reid Erickson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Erickson connects with a body shot that sends Paul's belly button to the back.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Erickson misses with a straight left. Erickson misses the shot to the body. Erickson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Paul. Paul wants to counter the offense by Erickson and move into the clinch position. Erickson throws out a powerful jab.
 It looks like John Paul has been cut. Erickson with a body punch. A glancing blow. Paul moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Paul connects with a body shot that sends Erickson's belly button to the back. Paul misses with the body kick and Paul takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Erickson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Paul.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Erickson swings widly with a right hand
and Paul makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Erickson takes one to the chin there. The fighters circling - Erickson throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Despite the aggression on Paul's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. This has been an exciting period of action! Erickson throws a lazy right hand but Paul sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Erickson misses with a body shot
and Paul counters with a stiff right hand. Paul misses the shot to the body. Erickson is looking to counter punch. Erickson looks to throw the jab but Paul is out of range. Paul tries to counter with a clinch but Erickson shakes him off and moves away. Erickson looks to score with a jab to the body but Paul is just out of range. The fighters circling - Erickson throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Paul is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Erickson with a body shot. Reid Erickson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Paul counters with a nice uppercut. Erickson looks to throw the jab but Paul is out of range. Erickson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Paul is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Nice defenses there by Paul. Paul keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Erickson looks to land a left hand but Paul moved out of range nicely. Erickson takes a swing at Paul's ribcage but misses. Erickson misses with an uppercut
and Paul counters with a low kick, right behind Erickson 's knee. Erickson misses with a right hand
and Paul counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Erickson tries to roll over but Paul keeps him under control. Paul is pressing down on Erickson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Erickson is holding on for now. Paul is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Erickson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Paul slows the pace down in half guard. Paul's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Paul prevents Erickson from improving his position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Reid Erickson will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on John Paul's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Paul shoots for a double leg takedown but Erickson sprawls well. He's pushed Paul's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Erickson is looking to counter punch. Paul displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Erickson throws out the jab. Paul uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Erickson. Erickson misses with a lunging right hand
and Paul counters with a straight right hand. Erickson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Paul sees it coming and avoids it easily. Erickson throws a big shot that misses. Paul lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

and Paul counters with a nice uppercut. Erickson throws a body shot but no joy. Erickson lands a jab to Paul's midsection. Paul swings for the body but Erickson moves out of range.

and Paul counters with a thumping low kick. Erickson misses with a looping right. Paul tries to counter with a clinch but Erickson shakes him off and moves away. Paul looks to score with a jab to the body but Erickson is just out of range. A little feinted left hand from Erickson on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Paul lands with a kick to the temple. Erickson shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Erickson misses with a right hand letting Paul counter with a right hand.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Erickson connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Paul momentarily.
Paul manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Erickson on his heels. He'll look to pass Erickson's guard now, I'm sure. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Paul throws a big right hand that misses. Erickson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Paul loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Erickson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Paul controls the pace. Erickson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Paul won't allow Erickson to sweep him here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Erickson trying to control the position.
Paul trying to control but Erickson is working from the bottom. Paul throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Paul works a leg free and moves into half guard. Erickson blocking the ground and pound attempt from Paul. Ground and pound from Paul. Paul working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Paul seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Paul lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Paul missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Paul is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Paul tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Paul lands a big shot there that rocks Erickson but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Erickson tries to hold on but Paul pushes him away. Erickson taking shots to the head.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Paul controlling the pace for now. Paul raining down hammerfists from mount. Paul sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Erickson takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Paul controlling the pace for now. Erickson is looking to get to half guard. Paul working Erickson over with strikes here. Paul has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Paul looking to control and managing it successfully. Paul lands a big elbow. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Paul controlling his opponent. Paul lands with some strikes. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
John Paul showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on John Paul's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Paul looks to land a combination but Erickson avoids it well. An attempted straight right counter from Erickson misses the target. Erickson clobbers Paul with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. A big right from Erickson misses. Erickson misses with an uppercut. Paul saw that one coming. Erickson throws a poor cross that misses
and Paul counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters. Paul circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Erickson drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Paul follows Erickson to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Paul! After the fight, John Paul was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
