PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 23419 p4p, 23380 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walay Buut told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 52 - 82 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 73 - 61 - 7, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Buut looking to score a takedown here. Buktot is defending well but Buut drives through and ends up in Buktot's guard.
Buktot pulls Buut in to control the position.
Buktot keeping moving, preventing Buut from controlling successfully.
Buut is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buktot wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Buktot looking to control.
Buktot looking to hit a scissor sweep but Buut is one step ahead there.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Buut closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Buktot's guard.

Buut controls from within his opponent's guard.
Buktot is adopting a defensive guard.
Buut's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Buut has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Buut.
Buktot is trying to control the position but Buut postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Buut.
Buktot thinks about countering with a body kick.
Buut throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Buktot's waist but Buktot gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Buut off to one side.
A quick step to the side and Buktot tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Buut gets a takedown into half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Walay Buut dominated that round.
That's time! Buktot's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Buktot closes the distance and clinches up with Buut, looking for a takedown. Buktot pushes Buut against the cage but Buut circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Buut keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Buut shoots for a double leg takedown but Buktot sprawls well. He's pushed Buut's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Buktot throws a quick counter head kick but Buut was just out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Buktot gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Buktot keeping full guard, as Buut tries to pass.

Buktot pulls Buut in close to his closed guard and prevents Buut from doing any damage or advancing position.
Buut looking to sit in guard and control but Buktot gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Buktot slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Buut has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Buktot seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Buut for as long as he can get away with.

Buut throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Buktot shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Walay Buut has got the better of the ground game so far.
Buut is positioning himself well to prevent Buktot advancing to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Buut moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Buut trying to keep a closed guard but Buktot is proving a slippery customer.

Buut looking for a sweep. Not yet Buut, not yet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dawindi Buktot will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Buktot displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Buut.
Buktot lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Buut shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Buktot defends it nicely.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buktot stuffs the takedown.
Buktot jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Dawindi Buktot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walay Buut.
Buktot is looking to land body kicks.

Buktot gets caught napping as Buut dives in and scores a takedown. Buktot manages to retain guard.
Buut is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Buktot controlling the position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Buktot wants to sweep but no luck.

Buktot wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Buktot wants to hit a sweep here but Buut passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Buktot there!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Buktot keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Buut unloads with some shots from mount but Buktot bucks and avoids them well.

Buut controlling from the full mount.
Yet more stalling tactics from Buut.
Buktot is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Buktot tries to reverse the position but Buut maintains control.
Buut controlling the pace for now.
Buktot is squirming around, avoiding Buut's attempts to control the action.
Buktot wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Buut.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Buut avoids the attempt from Buktot to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Walay Buut comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Buut has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
